$100 logo design contest

It's time for another logo design contest ;)

This time we want a logo for Biomek , a Greek company that deals with poles and masts.

There are not too many requirements for this design, so I guess that your creativity is not going to get forced by anyone this time :)

Biomek simply wants a logo that will look corporate (I mean serious, or in other words a logo that will show their integrity) As their activities are very related to roads, you can add some road related graphics. Also it would be good if you could use blue to your designs as this is the color that the company uses for all their printed material.

Please use vector graphics as the logo is going to be used in printed material too.

Deadline and prize

We will accept submissions until 15 of June. After that the company people will choose one logo and the winner will get $100 payable to your paypal account instantly.

I want to wish good luck to all contestants and may the best win :)

This seems like a good 1.  Best is we have plenty of time to work up some nice quality designs...

To the more long term members, please make people feel welcome and no more x for winner posts or you will be asked to not post in this thread or be allowed to take part in any competition at Webdigity. Stick to general comments and even constructive but well thought out critiques but lets give everyone a chance.

It would be a shame if we had to cancel these competitions because a small minority made the designers feel unwelcome or make them feel they have no chance of winning, and while I know many of you want to promote your friends but everyone has feelings and some people may misunderstand.

hey olaf.  thanks for the feedback.

i agree about the round "light", it doesn't give the right vibe.  the ball is too big or the wrong shape or both, that's sort of why I did the second one with the street lamp style thing.  If i have some more time later i'll try and merge the two concepts into a third incorporating the positive elements of each.

Yellow - I liked your design, it left me with the impression that it was to round though, I am not sure why.

Then again I am having insomnia & not sure I am seeing anything right....

yeah i might look into a different effect with the same design though. He is a more orb type logo. Lol really its not that different.

I just got an email from Biomek with some feedback regarding the contest.

First of all they want to thank everybody for their contribution in the contest, and so far they are very satisfied with the results.

Now back to the contest, they wrote me that their favorite designs so far are the numbers 9,17,18,25,26

So I guess with that in mind you know what style of logo the logo is looking for.

Cool, now we have some feedback too :) Anyways, dudes, the few of you who didn't get in that "what they like list", DON'T be droopy and don't even think that you lost the contest, this only means that you need to change the style a bit and put more work into the logo, DON'T give up ! I'm really looking forward to new submissions from everyone ;)

PS: btw, i just couldn't resist... i added a tiny detail to the original logo and spiced it up + integrated it into 2 different background colors ( although they want it blue, my fav color is red... so i gave it a shot )... just playing around, nothing more... :) ahhh, here they are:

no more so then most web2.0 sites using similar feel, their are similarities but to be fair I had thought of doing something similar so I guess its really difficult to come up with something totally unique

Yes but it`s kind of strange to have 2 logos that look alike, because we talk about 2 international company`s...they might be surprised to find out that "their brand" is similar to another.

And they pay for this too.

no absolutely not the logo from the austrian site is more "old fashioned" and the "similar" logo suggested here is some modern design

It is true that sometimes lack creativity could give you serious headaches... And yes, it's not always easy to come up with unique designs and whatever but that's why we are here and that's our job, even if it's hard, we must try... I do agree that those two logos look almost identical and that the design is not too unique, but it's a design you know... It might be just a coincidence, it might not be, I won't judge it... In the end, the company will decide which logo they want... Maybe they don't care if they have an "international" logo ( a not too unique logo I mean ), if that's what they like, that's what they'll get...

EDIT: @ olaf, don't get me wrong, but "old fashion" and "modern" are quite relative and subjective... And if you just take a look around you, you will observe that things that once were considered as being "old fashioned" are now "modern" again... It's not about old fashion or modern here, it's about style and creativity... And you have to admit that the 2 logos are quite similar... But as I said, we are not the ones taking the decision here and we shouldn't start pointing at others just because their logo is not unique and might have been inspired by another logo ( or maybe it's just coincidence )... If the company likes it, then let them have it...

To be honestly direct with you all, as I usually keep mum; with "too much blabber" never got me anywhere...  I never saw that logo on the link, if you really search hard, you'll see similar logos to any kind of simplified logos submitted.

It also doesn't mean I'm not creative enough, my track record says it all,  I could bombard this thread with several logo submissions, and to be honest, I join in for the fun and to help the community, I usually charge higher for my work.

I also never withdraw my entry here even if I already received several offers for it from different people just because it was designed for this contest, if it doesn't win it will be resold, but rest assured I didn't copy from anyone, jeez people look at our execution, he uses arrows, it just so happens that we thought of the same idea of using the letter "b"... If you are bothered with my integrity, or feel that I should withdraw my entry then so be it... Just PM me and stop the blabber...

I believe the final judge is from the company, but my guess is that they will exclude this logo from the contest.

Or were you referring to something else ? Honestly, your reply really sounded like a reply from a dude who has nothing to do with web design nor design...

To avoid further arguments and until Nikolas declares the winner of this "friendly" competition I'm locking the thread, hopefully the company will come back with a decision real soon, and if not then a fair way to determine the winner will be announced and prizes awarded.



 

I am really sorry that some members are unssatisfied with this contest, but I have to tell you that the problem is something that we can't avoid. The company chosed a logo and they are waiting for some government service to tell them if it is unique and if there is no copyright problem because as they've told me there is a logo that looks like the one they liked from the contest.

Please be patient, in anyway you know that the winner will get his money after all....

....and we have a winner. I am sad that the company hadn't replied my emails or return my calls, but at least they toled me which was the logo that they were checking for copyrights.
