Nikolas
Mon 10 October 2011, 03:51 pm GMT +0200
Well it is a long time since we run our latest contest, and we thought it would be great to add a new one.

This time we need a logo for Instabuck. Instabuck is a new service that will enable all publishers of digital products (ebooks, designs, software, etc.) to sell online easily. The service will launch in a few days and I think it is going to be a very good item for your porftolio :)

Contest rules

  • Logo should be in vector format
  • There should be an icon on it and in general it must be unique
  • You can NOT use graphics from cliparts

Prize

The prize is $250 USD payable to your paypal account plus a lifetime subscription to Instabuck's service.

The winner will be announced on Monday, 17th of October 2011.

Good luck everyone :)

The font is Lobster 1.4 which can be replaced with any other font.

Simply playing with the buck symbol. It can work as an icon too.

Hello froi40!

You just need to get your image hosted on a free image host then post it on the forum using the "insert image" button.

EDIT:

There actually is an easier way to do this.

When posting look for the "additional Options" link right below the imput box. You've got a field named "attach" wich allows you to select a file on your computer and upload it to the forum!

Good luck!

Nice work Xaipe!

I beleive however that it's "Instabuck" and not "Instabucks". You might want to change this.

Good luck!

Thank you --- I noticed that when I saw the post and was the only one with the plural.

I also tried converting to vector form and cant seem to be able to save to a file that is readable except for .PDF.

does anyone know what file types that vector form can be saved in?

Hello Xaipe.

I'm not sure if I understand the question well. Do you want to convert your file to a vector format, or upload it to the forum in vector format?

You cannot really convert a bitmap file to a vector format unless you are ready to lose details in the process. It's best to create the file in vector format from the start.

I do not think you'll be able to post image on the forum in vector format. Or if you can, they'll certainly do not show directly "onscreen" in the thread.

Hope this helps answering your question.

Cheers!

I am unsure basically comprehend the question well. Would you like to convert your file to some vector format, or upload it towards the forum in vector format?

You can't really convert a bitmap file to some vector format unless of course you are prepared to get rid of particulars along the way. It is best to produce the file in vector format from the beginning.

I don't think you'll have the ability to publish image around the forum in vector format. Or if you're able to, they'll certainly don't show directly "onscreen" within the thread.

Hope this can help responding to your question.

Cheers!

You can work with Adobe Illustrator

If you are on a budget, Inkscape is a free alternative to Illustrator. (I do not have enough post on this forum to post a direct link, but a quick seach on google should bring up the inkscape web site)

Hey Damil Thanks --- I am digging this inkscape software.
I can't afford Adobe although I know it can be used on trial. I dont want to have to learn it, like it and then leave it.

THis inkscape is great for free.

Hello Xaipe,

Yes, Inkscape is a great software. But if you plan on being serious about this, it might be a better idea to start and get yourself used to work with adobe Illustrator. It might not be a better software than Inkscape, but it's the industry standard. So if you are looking for employment or if you need to work with other professionals in the same field, illustrator will, in my opinion, be a better option. Plus, there is a lot of tutorials around, which makes it easier to master it.

My advice would be to buy an older version for very cheap. Illustrator CS works the same way as CS5 and except for a few things it will have the same features... for a lot cheaper.

Of course, this only make sense if you plan on making a living doing graphic design. If not, then stick to Inkscape!

Hey Damil - I thought about what you said and downloaded the trial version of Adobe Illustrator

I must tell you - I have never experienced such torture using any other drawing software than this.

It seems like whatever I want it to do, it won't do; and whatever I don't want it to do, it does with expediency.
What a horrible experience -- I think I will do this one project and get out forever. YUK!

I do appreciate your efforts tho  -- so don't take this as pointed towards you in any way.

Well, after 11 incarnations in different formats, I worked this one in illustrator and I never want to use that tool again....I never got it the way I wanted it.
Illustrator fought me all the way.

@Xaipe

Ahahahhaa! I do not recall how my first day with illustrator was, but I'm fairly sure I must have been feeling the same way.

Anwyays, what matter is the result, not the tool you are using. Just use what works best for you.

Hello,

I wasn't fully pleased with the font used on my first proposition. I tried to stay in the same spirit than the Venture Geeks logo in order to make it clear that these were part of the same network of businesses. But I think a more generous font such as the one used below would better fit the bill. Don't you think?

In fact the type on my original proposition looks much better once I get rid of the dollars sign. Which was a bit too much in my opinion.

Hello,

I still have some work to do on the files before they are ready. I'll do my best to have them ready before the end of the day.

@Xaipe: This is Gotham Rounded wich isn't free. But there are quite a few free font in the same style. Do a google search for "free rounded fonts" or "Station font"
