$300 logo design contest

Looks like we haven't run any contest for a long time, but today we are going to change that in a good way :)

In this contest you will have to design a logo for Venture Geeks, a new web site network that is being created right now. Venture Geeks is a funded company so what you will do here goes to a serious business. The cool thing about this contest is that the company is not established yet so there are no standard colors or any other restrictions, and you can create the identity for this new project.

A few ground rules:

• Logo should be in vector format
• There should be an icon on it and in general it must be unique
• You can not use graphics from cliparts

The prize

The prize is $300 USD payable to your paypal account plus a bit of free advertising, as you will be mentioned in the credits area in vg's web site.

Deadline: We will accept submissions until 23-4-2010

Just post it to your favorite image hosting service (eg. http://imagehoster.eu/ ) and include the image in a post here

Nikolas if we win how long do we get the free advertising. Also do we get it back if they don't use it.  Sometimes when you submit to a contest like this you don't get your design back.

Your design is yours in case you don't win.
The credit will be there for as long the logo will be used, so you can see that as a good reputation for you.

Hello all and good luck for the contest.

Below is my submission:

Obviously, I went with the "geeky kind of look" to illustrate the geeky theme. But added a mohawk to "this little man" in order to show the "risky" and venturous side while the bit of facial hair on the chin is to, in some way, express the creative side of the company.

I just used green, black and white as the main color. Black and white do give a very serious look, which I guess is balanced by the illustration. The touch of color adds vitality and energy to the logo.

The green color creates a reassuring ambience. It's the color of nature, groth, renewal and health. This is a restful color with strong calming attributes. It's also the color of money (US dollars), which if I did understand well what this company is geared toward, makes perfect sense.

I think this logo will hit the mark, no matter what your prospective clients are (corporate or not). It's fun and original, with yet a very conservative side to it.

Hopefully you'll like it.

This is another aproach to the logo research.
Color combination is not critical.
 
The most important thing of them is the greek symbol called "ckohleeas" which refers to voice amplifier
which means communication.

I have been working on my "Geek illustration" a bit more over the last few days. Because if I'm very pleased with the concept I came up with, I felt that the illustration could benefit from some more work. I still have a few things to touch up, but I should post the updated logo sometime today or tomorrow morning... so stay tuned!  ;)

I confirm what Nikolas already said... Amit, I guess your link to the image must be wrong or the image has been removed as I cannot see your work either.

Here is my revised submission.

As said earlier, as much as I'm pleased with the concept, I felt like something more could have been done to the Geek character. So I worked on refining the drawing to give it an "edgier look". Enjoy

Here are two different concepts of my designs.

In my opinion, every logo must have a concept behind it. So here is a small case study for both of them.

The first one, is a word-play concept. The "ee" letters could easy be used for a cartoon with glassed. That is why, i have made them like a face, adding a mustache and a tie, to make it look more like a business man. The implementation is easy and of-course the face can be used alone to give emphasis on any part of the web site.

The second is an owl. As guys are already behind the SocialWhale project, i have had the idea to help them make a zoo (ok, i am joking :P). Owl is an animal that have a far sight. That is what a venture company need, so it can be successful. The eye to look far away so it can understand how business work, what they need to do, how they can implement things better to be successful.


The colors are easy to be changed, and of-course i have not parsed the logo through photoshop yet, so it can be clear. All that change later, when the logo have to be added on the design.

All jokes aside. I'm not very used to entering design contest on this forum. However, looking back at older contests, it seems to me that this contest was showered with much better than usual logo proposition. The tight competition must have been getting the best out of us. Congrats to all other entrants! We'll hopefully see each other very soon for another contest.

Well I wasn't here, If I was then I would have pushed the envelope much further... loL!
