What is the seo benefit of a .org domain name?

To be sincere, I think it's none. Most of the times I search for a .com domain. The .org doesn't always assure me the #1 spot.

none... anyone can register a .org domain... but .gov .ac domains may have some privileges... who knows...

Sometimes however having .org domain may make your site appear more trustworthy in the eyes of some webmasters which could, possibly, lead to some inbound links. For this to happen your site needs to look like "organization-ish".

.org is a powerful domain and Search Engines consider it as authority website. But these are generally used for websites of organizations.
