28-4 Google pagerank update in progress

Just a quick note, google pagerank update is in progress.

Can you see any result yet? Hope we got better pagerank (I know pagerank is useless but still is the #1 factor for selling links :) )

I was wrong there are two PR6 for my sites! :)

My main site went from 0 -> 3, before I went and screwed it up, and had to delete it. (Meth0d, reupload the files neccessary. See my IM on MSN to you for more info.)
My other sites still have to be processed...

I've gotten a PR5  8)
plus a couple have upgraded from 3 to 4

It looks like the update is over. Probably this was the fastest pagerank update ever happened, and I got a 5 -> 4 :(

I guess that sponsored links thing caught me :)

Yeah, well it looks like I will now have to wait for my pages to get any boost :( .

Don't worry man. Pagerank is not that important. Actually it is not important at all unless you sell links ;)

Uh, FYI, I have 3 directories as of May 4th at 12am.

no not really, still have the same number of visitors, as Nick mentioned the PR is not important for results

I've just saw some of the updated results from my directory (I mean the update for the listed sites) and most of the sites that changed got a smaller value than the one they had before.

Olaf: Yeah only topsites got a smaller rank

This is the reason most professional web developers get so frustrated with Google, PR is nothing, but hype and lots of silly people thinking their lives are over because Google thinks their site lost link quality 6 months ago!

To prove the point I set up a domain 3 months ago instantly linked to a PR6 site and 5 PR 5 this should give it a PR4 its result PR 0 different site 6 months ago jumped from 0 to 5!

Traffic to these sites 0 (they are my test zone and I don't want normal traffic visiting as it screws my stats)
PR is worthless unless you are selling links to people who make statements like Nathan, in which case you can sell $100s worth of links to a site which has never seen traffic.

I got this way 2 or 3 PR5 domain names this way ... (not more the 50 uniques a day each) :)

During this same period, my site has risen from ~1,300,000 to 1,038,069 in Alexa. I like that stat Cool .

I have noticed one thing...new pages instead of getting a zero appear to be getting "No pagerank information available" and a gray PR toolbar. I checked several of my sites and WebDigity seems to be doing the same.

Since it used to be that a gray toolbar indicated a banned site, I don't think this was a good move. Seems like the only page that should have a zero is a new page. I thought the gray was a good idea...Hmm, I wonder if this somehow has something to do with the paid links concept and well, now I'm not sure where I'm going with that as a banned site and PR really don't relate.

Your thoughts?

 ;D don't be mean Olaf, though sorry to shatter another illusion but you were better off looking at PR then Alexa data which is well not very representative of traffic ultimately the only stat thats really important is visitors (unique) and page views everything else is just designed for ego's though seoMoz page strength test and Yahoo trust rank can both provide you with some useful information and an ego boost. A new favourite of mine is http://www.websitegrader.com/ which even tells you what literacy level is required for an "American" to read the site, I'm afraid unless you have 2 years college my blog will be completely mystery to you!

btw. I check the alexa rank from webmaster related websites all the time: a value lower than 50.000 could be information about the traffic from a website...

I posted my thoughts on PR already on my blog. I made sure that all trackbacks are pointed here.

Alexa and pagerank can be good data, but it can be false or scam too as both can be "cooked" by someone who has some basic knowledge.

I think that Google is trying to make pagerank important again as it seems that they now filter more and more links to their algorithm. That's why most of the webmasters report increase in their pagerank for this update.

I thought Alexa was based soley on traffic? I've had some good traffic lately to my domain. :D

Alexa records the traffic from the people that surf your site using their toolbar. In other words it is really inaccurate. You can use a statistics program to check your traffic, what do you need alexa?

right use google analytics...this way you know that your traffic is real

I use it...except it doesn't track in my SMF forum or the chat for example :S and Alexa tracks most places.

Its strange but we have a couple of high traffic sites a 1000+ day yet almost no sales from the site, yet another client site gets only 100/day and regularly converts 5-10% this is primarily because of the niche. But its an important lesson that having a few targeted users is far more beneficial then 1000s of non-targeted ones.

yes absolutely, there are very different indicators why a websites has sales or not. My website has 1000 uniques a day (targeted traffic) but no one bought the website templates yet :(
