Does the domain identifier has to do with seo?
I mean a .com is better than a .info?

As far as I know the domain gets better ranking in the SERPs when you do localized search.
For instance if you live in England and you search only for english sites, the results will better for the .co.uk sites.

I agree with yohan. Another thing I know is that .gov domains get better rankings. And all of these are used mostly by Google

Really? So Im based in the uk - if im targetting UK traffic it would be better for me to register a .co.uk than it would a .com?

Yes. But have in mind that .com domains are better to remember by humans... :)

lol damn humans and their rubbish memories! lol So it would probably be worth registering both a .com and .co.uk?

Yeah registering more is allways better and from my experience I see that each search engine likes more different domain names.
For the topsites directory we use these domains :
www.thetopsites.net
( main english )
www.topsites.gr
( main greek )
and these alternatives for the english version:
www.searchthebest.biz
www.thetopsites.info
www.top-sites.co.uk
What I see is that only Google likes the domain thetopsites.net All the others prefer other domains. Maybe an experiment in the domains like this could make you find the most desirable for your business.

If it is localized, what is the international one.. .net?

Officially the .com .net and .org are from usa. But propably these are counted as international by Google. Also have in mind that Google will pay attention to your server's ip adress.

Aha - so if you are targetting a particular country for your website it is worth hosting your site in that country?
