Just found this, thought it would be valuable for the bloggers here.

Here are some words from the site of this tool :

We can?t stand spam.

Who can? You have better things to do with your life than deal with the underbelly of the internet. Automattic Kismet (Akismet for short) is a collaborative effort to make comment and trackback spam a non-issue and restore innocence to blogging, so you never have to worry about spam again.

The tool works like a email spam detector, which actually gets all the comments, and returns them with an indication "spam" if they are actually comment spam entries.

Check it out :

That looks like a handy tool! I love the stats on the top of the site:

3,813,164 spams caught so far
53,293 so far today
81% of all comments are spam

81%!!!  :o

Yeah that number is really big, and it is reallistic.

Most of the comments that i usually see in blogs are like "Thanks for sharing this information" with a casino or health related link attached.

most of the webmasters are not removing those, because they actually make their sites look more active, but when the spam bots start posting a lot then it is a real problem.

Thats the exact reason why I removed the 'feedback' page of one of my sites...

I don't think a spam detector has been implemented here yet. This thread got a trackback from a spam site. It is pretty funny how of all posts the trackback was on this one!
