Back Link Explosion - What's going on?

 :o Back link count + 5'570 in 2 weeks!  :o

Many the things i've seen but this is weired. Did you lately check your back link counts?
Something strange is going on in the matrix.
My back link counts on all (25) websites have gone up like rockets! some of them bei the hundreds and some by the thousands.

Some sites where my software (webceo) counted between 2 and 20  back links on google for years, now show jumps up to several hundred since jan 1th. That is without any influence on SE positions.

On diveshopsoftware.com i had a raise of 5'570 back links on Altavista, 3'462 on Yahoo and Google' back link bot kicked my bud out (back links only) - most likely because of too many backlinks in a short period of time. Autsch.

Logic, i hear you say. Sure ....but but without doing anything?

Now here comes the question of the day:

I haven't submitted anywhere, i have no link farm connections, i made about 10 link exchanges each on this sites during the last two weeks. Now the back links numbers raise like crazy and the SE positions stay the same with a slight down fall on some sites. what the hack is going on? where do 5'500 back links come from all of a sudden I don't trust such presents, not a bit. And i would not have needed a single  link more on that site anyway since it is Nr.1 positioned on 8 of the 10 main keyword phrases.

Does anybody else heve theire backlingks going up like rocket stars? Let me know.
I feel like a huge question mark with a loose chaw ;)

Maybe some of those link exchanges were site-wide? Also notice that the signature you are using in forums may be search engine friendly.

Hi Niko, i write a lot but not that much ;) By the way i just found out that the links on e.g. this forum are only visible users, maybe a stupid question but i honestly never thought about it, but is that search engine friendly? Do the bots still see the signature? loged in or not? Only the admins signature is shown all others are hidden. has that a reason?

No that is not true,
I just checked and the links are shown regardless of whether you are logged in or not

Pareaxeno polh. I just checked and doubble checked again. i can see your links Giorgos and the once from Nikolas, but mine are not there when i'm loged out?? Did i do something wrong in the settings maybe? Or do i need more stars maybe? The link to the blog the same. Sorry i don't want seem rude , was just wondering.

I only saw it because i cleaned out my cookies today, here it comes - string of events - action and reaction - and accidently deleted the one from here as well. And that happened at the very moment when Nikos answered my thread and was talking about the forum links, i looked down and there where no links. Just his, mine where gone, and then i relized that i wasn't logged in.... etc etc, long story. lol

btw, my threats seem to end up always somwhere completely different than where they started, that keeps the world spinning. :)

I had wondered about this backlink thing myself and started charting it with data from Yahoo!'s Site Explorer - my conclusion - there is no consistency in the counts and often no discernible reason for the fluctuations. One week of my study I had one week were some sites doubled in backlinks and several weeks later that numbers dropped to less than what they were before the jump. I give up, there's no point in tracking something that is so inconsistent.

Hi YMC
I use WebCeo for my backlink countand many other statistic actions, it's free. I'm using it since version two, now we are by 7,5 can't exactly remember how many years that is. This software turns out results that have never had any significant up and downs at the link count section. I'm adding links slowly, once a week a few. When I monitor the progress of my back it also shows a slow progress, so i trust the results even though when i check at Yahoo or Google itself the results do tumble up and down lijke a company of drunken soldiers. If i don't do anything on a site for six month (happens sometimes) than i see a slight drop in the back link count.

An other thing that gets very obvious is, what you mentioned in the article on your blog. Google holds back with the their link count results.
Checking it with WebCEO, even if a website shows thousands of backlinks on Altavista and Yahoo, at Google there are no  more than 50 links on my sites. After a while i got used to it and learn how to interprete this numbers. The numbers will never be 100% correct i guess but it's a pretty good tool to alert you if there is aomething significantly changing like a a backlink explosion for example.

I mean all of a sudden, over night so to speak, all my backlink counts start to explode including the counts on Google, and go up in the thousands. there must be something is going on. I don't trust such surprises.

btw. i take it that you are not going to be angry if i ad a link to your article on my blog?
Thanx for the input

Why should I be angry about a backlink in a blog article - link away! I do care about them and will continue to work on getting them; I just don't count them anymore.

I think there has been some update by Google in their backlink counts recently - at least that's what some are saying on another forum - perhaps this is why the number jumped? Some say the information is back from November so if that's the case, I guess you could be seeing three months of work lumped in one result?

@ Nikolas - Any idea why my signature links only show when i'm logged in? Checked everything, double checked it again, my settings seem to be right. It must be something in the admin settings. You probably won't even realize it, because your signature is visible, so is Giorgios' YMCA, Olaf etc.
Just tell me if that has a purpose, so i can stop looking for what i did wrong....
Thanks for looking into it.

Hey don't worry. After 200 posts your signature will be visible to guests as well (and googlebot). This is one of the things we've done to eliminate spam in this forum ;)

Niko that comes to be the right topic now... Gotja... ;) Now i suddenly understand two things at once. Thanks for that info.

Additional news... I thought i'd understand, but you fooled me there, your shop is just about sold out. When are you getting some new stuff in? Where do you import the 100 post packages from? You know the ones for 50 points... Cuba? I could use one or two lol. And maybe a cigar too.  :-[

Hi Vince, long time no see. How is your charity project going.

Thanks for that idea. Just that it takes a bit to long to check 6300 backlinks...... my telefon line is not all that good. But that's the price you pay for living in paradise :) I think you know what i mean.

Did I understand that you have to make 200 comments before your signature is useful?

Way to go Tucson - It shouldn't be your first concern in a forum to get your signature out to the world. We are all keen to learn what else you have to contribute besides your signature. And if you are new to webdesign and seo you sure will find a lot of helpful tips here and you will have any chance to ask questions or reply to posts.
I found that i get quite some visitors to my sites from webdigity members who can see my signature already.

How do you actually do, I don't seem to be able to find such an option !!!

I just found out myself,
but did not care, as samiotis says, quite a few people visited my sites from here.

I am most interested to see how you limit the search result to display only the domains in Yahoo Site Explorer.  Can you please give us more info how to get those results?  Thanks in advance.
