Hi everyone,
I am a little bit of a newbie so bare with me. :-[ I have started (thanks to some of the excellent posts in here ) to manually build backlinks to my website. Two days ago i have started to receive e-mail that my listing was approved and my site is listed. I checked an indeed it was in there. After that i have begun to check if my backlinks number had increased, using a number of free tools found on the net. But the result was not really the expected one, none of the websites where i did appear was in the baclkink  report. ::) Are there any advices out there? Please help.

Thanks to all.

bryanfuller is right. In addition, check using yahoo or use the google webmaster central (that is useful in many ways) as those have the really important metrics you need (their index).

Hope this helps, and good luck with your link building project ;)

It takes time for the search engine to find your new backlinks.

You will just have to be patient and wait.

Dear first of all, don't rely on any software. I think, your backlinks have not yet cached by search engines. You can search your baacklinks on search engines through link:domain name of your site.l

I think it is natural. It takes time for google to recognize backlinks sepecialy if the one you get is not from an autority site.

You can just wait and keep on building backlinks.

It really takes some time.. try checking your back links using Back Link Verifier and Back Link Popularity Checker from Siteopsys.
The search engine may take some time ti cache a web page. Hence, the results seem unfair.. But do not worry. Try n see here. Hope it works here ..

Yes. It is true. Google deliberately does not reveal all back-links. That is to hinder people from learning the system in order to manipulate it. Google wants the web to be a natural place, and does not want to help SEO experts to manipulate the system. If this is hard to explain to your clients, Google could not care less.

Do not worry it is not a big issue. It is all because of Google dancing.

... Google dancing.

Is that an in-joke, or a technical SEO term that I ought to know?

This seems as an initial problem of starters. Reports will definitely takes quite a days and weeks sometimes to appear and it is basically just part of your total link percentage. Having to track them takes time and effort on your side. Be patient for positive results will surely comes your way.

For those situations where you've placed a comment with a link or whatever in a directory, etc. and the backlink doesn't show up in either Yahoo or Google then submit that URL to pingler.com, i think this might helps you to get index that backlink quickly.

As a googler said in the google webmasters group:

"the link: operator only shows a sample of the links that point to your
site, not all of them. So there is no need to worry.."

so google has most likely picked up all the links that the other search engines have.

If you submit to directory most probably link will be not show within few days it takes around 1-2 months. If you need to make fast backlinks then follow blog commenting service.

It has been explained to me that building back links isn't a sprint ... it's a marathon.  Some will show up in a week or so, some will show up after a few weeks, and many will not show up even though they do in fact exist.  Keep chipping away at it and the results will follow.

In some cases Google may begin counting the links that were added some weeks or even months ago, so please remain patient as they will finally emerge.

It takes a little time, and not all your links will show.  Use a link checker to make an approximation of how fast your growing ... I don't think it will ever show you an up to date, complete listing of all your links.

...If site on which you put your backlink is not indexed your link would not appear. That mean, that you must ping your articles to get indexed and your links became valuable in search engine eyes.

Doh! I must be so stupid, because I never thought of that before. Now you mention it, it is so obvious! Of course people can ping their articles.
