Cheapest place to register domain names?

So this seems to be an ongoing topice everywhere - so i thought i would bring it up in here to see if anyone has found any bargains? I use godaddy to register my .coms - costs me $8.95. Does anyone know any cheaper?

I think both namecheap.com and netfirms.com are both cheaper than godaddy.

I also use eurodns.com

They are not so cheap, but they are very good company, plus they have more tlds

I use GoDaddy, I havnt tried any other hosts but I have seen deals up to 6.95. Oh and there are ones that say they will give free or domains for $3 if you buy hosting from them.

I get my domains from an Enom reseller, at $7.50 each. But I believe they have raised their prices to $8.50 now.

All I want to say is, beware of firms who sell domains cheap! I found one who sold domains at $5.95 - the company was iregistrations, I think, and they've since closed down. Took my domain name with them.

I managed to pick up 11 domains from Yahoo while they were doing the$1.99 special but the rest of mine I got from GoDaddy.

I recently heard, from someone who works at Yahoo, that they are going to make $2.99 the permanent price for domains.  That will be tough to beat if they do.

That takes the sting out of buying them, I hate to buy a name for $7.95 and never develop it.  I always use godaddy because if I ever want to resell the domain most buyers will have a godaddy account.

Ah, the holy grail of webmastering... I used to chase the same dragons some time back, but remember, you get what you pay for. You never get something for nothing. So if the price is way under $7, run away (unless it's a special with godaddy or soem other respected company).

The lowest I was ever prepared to go was $7 with name.com - they're ICANN accreditedand I've never had any trouble with them (note: I only ever had 2 domains with them).

It's more important for me to have all or most of my domains in one (reliable!) place.

well i would have to say to look at godaddy.com once in a while because they offer great offers like 1.99 a domain :)

yes i highly recommend go daddy, u are able to fully control the A records of ur domain and this is useful for ISP's like myself

Now Yahoo says that the $2.99 price is available for new customers only.  That's funny since I have over 15 that I bought from them for $2.99 or less.

I like Go Daddy but it is probably worth paying the extra buck to get domains through Yahoo because their control panel is much easier to work with, IMO.

Maybe you should make some accounts using the name of your relatives (mother, father, sister, brother) :)

I've become very wary of cheap as chips domain names, I know because the market is flooded domain names are getting cheaper but I have noticed a growing trend of lease based domain names. This is where you buy the domain name for a year but the reseller actually buys it for 2 years, charges you for 1 year and when you go to renew with a different seller you find the domain is already taken!

This practice is of course "for your benefit so you suffer no downtime" as one reseller put it, so I guess my advice is to check that the whois information is in your name and to make sure you have the certificates.
Nominet the UK registrar for .co.uk always sends out a certificate of authority (though it takes 3 to 4 months) this is a piece of paper but means you own the domain just like a deed, if you haven't received one and are registered in the UK you can visit Nominet site and ask to see a copy of the certificate of authority to check its your name not your providers name on that certificate.
Just a warning, anyway I said it before but while 123reg.co.uk are not the cheapest they have an excellent customer service (though pipex ever expanding empire is reducing this) and have very easy to use control panel.

They are also a traditional reseller so they actually complete DNS propagation. Many American and cheap resellers do not propagate DNS properly in that they only contact 1 or 2 of the big ICANN servers, the one nearest them and the one nearest the user. Hence you appear to have a domain running in under a few hours, in reality its not and it could be up t a week for the entire network to catch up. A good reseller will not promise to have your domain live in hours, it takes at least 24 hours for a domain to be seeded to all the major DNS  servers and a further 72 hours for that propagation to reach the smaller ones.

I Go daddy reliable? I have heard a lot of things about them. Mostly not good. I was supposed to register a domain there but was discouraged. Could you please tell me which domain registrar is better and also not expensive.

I always use Godaddy and have never had an issue with them. I do use coupons but will not post my list here as it is not appropriate. Check the domain names section of the forum for more info and lots of coupon codes.

I guess it depends on what you want. I tend to register several domains at once so Godaddy works because I can apply coupons to the whole thing. Plus, I think their customer service is good. Just my two cents.

Ultimately, it is up to you. There is certainly no shortage of choices!

Search for a reliable registrar and not a cheaper.  If you get a cheaper one, see that it is reliable.

Think sibername is cheap enough place to reg domains with.
Using their voucher mtl35wht you may reg a domain with them 10% cheaper.

You should compare prices to make a proper choice. I recommend Eurodns domain registration services which are well-known as reliable and quality. You wont regret of using them

Just host is much cheaper ... for hosting as well as registering domains.

They are cheap but not very reliable.
I'd use the other company for domain registration.

@sparky, If you plan to buy multiple domain names at once, Godaddy and Namecheap offers great deals for bulk domains. Try it once and you will see the difference in single domain purchase rate and multiple domain order rate.

Go for Go Daddy  they are one of the largest registrars and I have quite a few domains registered with them. Their prices are very reasonable, and the service and features are easy to use.
