Do deep links help the main page of your blog

I have been asking for most posts and links to trackback to my main blog URL. Should I start deeplinking? Does this help my blog's main url? I am trying to make it to 1st page on my blog not my core URL. I see the blog as the great content that will one day drive people to my main site.

Sorry martini tangent....anyways....should I start deep linking or will this dilute my goals?

Deep linking is very good for SEO. To do it right, you should try get relevant links. So for example a link from a car site to a pets related article wont help you.

Nikolas, that is clear. What I am trying to decide is when people write about me do I want the anchor text to link to the main page or the deep link. What is better for rankings on the main url?

Link to the page the link has meant to go to. If someone is writing about your post they are not likely going to link to your blog in general. Asking for this may cause ill will and distrust.

The solution is to create a link to the blogs home page with each post. This should work very nicely.

I agree with TWD. In fact if you have many "ranked" pages, some of this rank passes to your rest site too (including the homepage)

The key is to link to the rest of your site from inside your content like it is an external link(I mean the same way that you link to another reference in an article).

Drives me nuts when I see a link to a blog article and instead of being taken to the article I'm taken to the homepage and left to figure out where in the world the specific blog post actually resides.

If you want to be a real resource you have to think about how people will use your site AFTER they find it. Frustrating visitors is going to invite them to leave and your ranking won't matter.

Right, I was going to say the same things. You want to definitely be inter linking your web pages. If you have WordPress you should consider adding a breadcrumbs plugin.

I look at forum sig links all the time and almost always the link is to the home page and seldom is it ever to other pages. I often consider this a lost opportunity.

Deep linking is most liked by google but it should be according to the rules mentioned by google in webmaster tool.
