Blog Storm has a great article on Geotargetting with PHP Visit through proxy its a nice idea and his implmentation is very clean but he use the MaxMind IP database which costs $50 and even more for updates their are several free IP databases out there and while the reason MaxMind costs is its PHP API perhaps it would be nice if wee as a forum created an enhanced tutorial for hooking up to a free IP database?

is there? I was just looking at http://software77.net/geoip-software.htm Visit through proxy,
years ago I bought the BT IP directory at nearly £500 :( but it has free updates for life and now includes IP 6 addresses so I guess I can't complain but I think it would make a great tutorial if we can integrate a free IP database :)

There is a free one from MaxMind. The difference is that the paid one monitors the changes from US to other countries (US holds most of the ips, and other countries that need more ips get them from US)

Here is a tutorial about geotargeting Visit through proxy :)

The big difference seems to be that all AOL users are considered American, this is not really a problem as some one dumb enough to use AOL probably would by an American only product even if they lived in Timbucktu
