Yep its been a long time coming but those of us in the UK can now deploy Google checkout on our sites and its rates are so much better then paypal!
For many of us thois is good news, Google Checkout is fully regulated by FSA in the UK and Google payments is a merchant bank provider meaning that for those doing business they cant just seize your assets on a whim like Paypal.

It can be setup that way or offset against your adwords campaigns held and deposited when you want, I worked out it will save us about £2500 a year in handling fees and percentages

Not bad at all. Did you programmed it yet? Is it easy like the paypal IPN integration?
I guess it is too soon to ask, but I think their next step is the EU (I mean the countries that have euro)

I think Google are going about it slowly and methodically making sure they are registered with the relevant financial authorities to act as gateway providers unlike a certain other company. So hold your hats they are getting their slowly, and I expect it won't be long till they deploy in most of europe.
Its also really easy to intergrate, nice API makes IPN look clunky
