I remember, and it was not that long ago that Google took a dim view of SEO... And warned to be very careful using SEO providers. It changed this in the webmaster guidelines a few months back. Now, it is offering a PDF on the basic s of SEO.

I saw this too, and I actually blogged about that. It is really strange but also really good that Google finally "embraces" webmasters

Hehe,

Let us know if he actually understands it. We all need something basic to show to business minded people (I mean people that have no clue of what we do :) )

Oh, I don't know. Seems like if everyone "knows" how to do something that you don't have to hire an "expert". Perhaps this is just a way to undermine SEO providers and make it easier for people to do SEO themselves.
Though, it is like most things, even knowing how something is done doesn't make you good at it. I know the basics of glass blowing but I have little doubt that all I would succeed in making is a big mess and probably end up burning myself too. lol
OT: Oh, Nikolas, how exciting that you can get back to building your business and call your time your own again.

Absolutely, this will make it easier for people to do it themselves... And that is a good thing. Maybe the SEO community will now start offering a Holistic SEO approach... After all, all the traffic in the world will not help if you have a really bad website.

looks like Google have given us just a little information, which can be dangerous if used badly. Which by most people it will be hence those that know (ie webmasters and people lik us?!!?) should still find ourselves ahead of the SEO curve...
Or am I being foolishly optimistic once again?

Let me be a little laconic : Everyone knows how a motor works, but that does not means that everyone knows how to build one ;)
When you want to charge your clients for SEO services, it is good to have an authority source (google) to show them that this is actually a work

A wrote a similar post on one of my blogs today. I used the example of changing a vehicles oil. Yes, I know how its done, I have even done it, but I don't have any interest to do it any more. The same could be said about SEO.

I've only read a few pages of it so far, but it seems like much of the advice boils down to using words well - something I'm more than willing to help people with. ;)

I really like how you expressed your opinion. It is all about doing words correctly!

This looks great. As a business person first a sales person second and a webmaster last I will come back after reviewing it and confirm or deny that it should go out as a business case for your efforts.

It is a very good thing that Google has made itself know on such an important matter. I wonder if the other SE's will follow?

That would be great for all SE's to understand and acknowledge this important aspect of online marketing! Not all website owners have the skill set nor time to devote to search engine optimization--that's why you hire the experts!

Of course, most of us want more than the basics. We want the Holy Google Grail, how to zoom to the top of serps without much effort.
