Google search results

Hello,

I had a question.  I sometimes will do a search for my website on google and see how many results it turns up.  One day it had over 5500 but then it dropped significantly and has been low for about 3 days.  How does this happen?  What does it mean?

You mean a site:xxxxx query, or you search an actual keyphrase?
