I hate spammers....

As latelly this site got a really impressive ammount of referer spam, I thought webdigity needs a live referer spam protection.

I've just made a script that does this work, and I hope this way we will be able to save some bandwidth.

Let me know if you experience any problem with it (just let me know if you get any "restrict access" page)

OK I see your are little lazy ;) (other people just paste the related link)

Don't know if it is relevant or not, but the past couple of days there's been a bit of wierdness with private messaging for me.

When I come here,  I almost always go to unread posts first. When the pop-up for messages shows up, I usually cancel. (In the past clicking read now didn't work.) When the unread list comes up I click on the number of messages listed in the User Area. Instead of taking me to the messages area, it takes me to the front page of the forum. If I go back to the unread list and click on the messages link a second time, then it works.

Like I said, don't know if related to spam changes, I haven't used PM's since your press release for Web 2.0 Announcer.

Michelle, I saw this too before some days, and I thought somehow it is connected with the new version of Firefox (2.0)

What browser you were using the time this happened?

I think there is a bug in FF 2.0 when the visitor is redirected in some case...

I'm using FF.

Nikolas
Fri 10 November 2006, 11:17 pm GMT +0100
Then this is propably a bug for FF.

Also I've noticed that this mostly happens when I click on a link with the middle button (to open it in a new tab)

I've got the same error in FF (version 1.5.0.8 ) since a couple of days. Clicking on an unread message takes me to the front page, hitting the back button and clicking again will take me to the message...

This is so strange.

The only way that the site is sending location headers is when you are visiting a non www. version of the site, but even then it redirects you to the www version of the page you were going to.

I will try to debug this, but I am almost convinced that this is a problem of FF.

I have this problem with every new browser session (mostly link I get via the email)

You mean only for webdigity, or any email link?

only webdigity, I don't think that its a FF bug, I think it started with the new main page (the same time where my avatar was gone)

Mon 13 November 2006, 11:14 am GMT +0100
Then it looks like I have to find some time for debugging.....

The strange is that the antispam module is also redirecting the user, but it redirects with javascript to the page that you are visiting anyway.

I will check it again and let you know. Thanks for the input :)

Finally it was my fault.

Now it is ready. Please let me know if the problem continues (I mean the redirection problem)

Also I've added some checks in the register process to minimize the spam sign ups. Hope this will work :)

One of my IPs is  on your list. It's been hijacked by spammers in the past and I'm trying to clean it up. If you can please unlist 74.86.118.21, so my clients emails aren't being blocked by anyone.

Nikolas hi !
I also hate spammers. I have a very strong pass in my site and i am quite sure its safe.
I have read that your script is not accurate...
But please, you should remove this silly script.
I have the same problem. I am not a spammer. All i have done is using your whois tool some time.
My http://www.go-nafplio.gr site is listed in your http://www.webdigity.com/banned.referers.php script as a bad referer. The problem is that google presents this as 3rd or 4th search result.
Please remove my site.

Nik,

Nikolas
Sun 21 December 2008, 03:59 pm GMT +0100
salestrainer, here we don't get any automated signups. The problem is with low paid people - mostly from India, and mostly from an Israel company that pays them - that register and post about 3 spam messages each. The bad with them is that there is no automated solution to block them as they are ordirany people...

Nkolas,

That is what I am experiencing too. While I have it set up that i have to approve them, 100's come in once or twice a week. It makes it really hard to see who is real.

Do you accept webmasters signature links?

We allow signature links, but you must have at least 20 posts to set one or to post links in the forums. I know it is annoying but we have to deal with those who are here to spam :)

Is there how to trace the spammers.

sportzman
Thu 25 August 2011, 07:00 am GMT +0200
Dammit! Very few things actually infuriate me more than spammers. That is because Spammers are thieves! There is no difference between a spammer, and someone who would go around stealing pennies from everyone they can find. The logic is exactly the same too, ???well, if I only steal from them a little, they won???t notice ??? but if I do it from a lot of people, I???ll get rich!??

hello
I checked this morning and some of my blog entries had been invaded by spam, the invisible kind that aims to stuff keywords into your blog. Sorry about that if it affected your RSS feed.
I have changed my password, but I am trying to figure out if there???s something else that I need to do so that this doesn???t happen again.

Put a moderation tool on you blog when someone makes a post you have to approve it.  Usually they will eliminate a lot of the spammers because if they know it is moderate they will leave.  You can also put a note say, "All of the comments on this blog are moderated and will not show until approved by the Blog owner."
