I am creating a CMS site and I want  to insert a javascript editor to edit the pages.

While I was starting I though it could be good to put a BBCode script but this is not ok with my client, so I would like to have a WUSIWYG editor. Is there any free script for this job?

Hello,

which is the best FREE browser-based wysiwyg editor?

which one is the best?
important points are:
- must be fast (load time)
- w3 valid code (xhtml)
- easy to integrate in php/mysql CMS pages
- easy to use (for end user)

the advanced features are not so important (markup and links are the most important features)

I use timyMCE

It is very easy to use and produces w3c validated code

just did a test with this tool, but this one is a heavy one, I'm looking for a light weight script, do you know this one?

tinyMCE is a very well known WYSIWYG editor. There is also another one that is very good, but I can't remember the name of the project. I will post it here if I finally remember it.

I don't know the one you posted, and propably it doesn't produce validated code (it has tables in the buttons)

Just noticed that there was already a similar thread: http://www.webdigity.com/index.php/topic,84.0.Javascript+WYSIWYG+editor.html

maybe we should join both threads?

Today I used fckeditor as an upgrade for and existing cms system I build before.

I think they forgot the "u" inside the name f_ckeditor.

what a bad code is that, the interface and all other is very nice but the code (they are still suing font faces) that was for met the last time that I used this one...OK next tinyMCE ...

lol at that u thing :P

I think you are right. fkeditor is very very slow, and I was thinking of changing it in the future.

Now I am sure that my next project will use tiny too

i am now using TinyMCE as Nik has also suggested. Notes: if you check the examples at Moxiecodes Wiki, there are MANY ways to layout the editor and it wont load slow if you apply compression + tile maps and limit the buttons that are displaying. It comes of course with bb and HTML editing abilities, I'm using it in many different areas of my personal project and of the following I think Tiny is the best: Whizzy, Hoteditor, Open WYSIWYG, and a few others that I have tried, but can't remember
