New 100 USD logo design contest

As our community gets more and more professional web designers, we thought to create another design contest to feed your creativity :)

This time we need a logo for a major real estate company in Greece, myHouse. MyHouse is a real estate and reconstruction company. You can check their web site, it is in greek language, but I am sure you'll get the concept.

What we need for the logo

As the manager of the company tolled me, they need a modern looking logo with an image attached, having the word myHouse and the tag line Real Estate & Reconstruction. The image can be a house, or whatever else that fits. We will prefer vector graphics, but in case that you want to do something raster please use a high definition image as the logo will be used for offset printing.

The prize

The prize is $100 payable to your paypal account right after the contest end.

Deadline

The deadline is 15th of February which gives you enough time to think of something ;)

Does the client prefer any color scheme?

I saw some previous logos that had orange. But I guess there isn't any really problem with that.

BTW I forgot to mention that the site is going to redesigned so you don't have to make something that will fit to the actual color scheme.

righteo i have done a few deisngs for a real estate company before. What kind of feel do they want for the logo.

I am not sure. Can you give an example? The only feedback I got from the company is that they want a modern looking logo that will have an image attached. Actually they sound that they don't really know what they want as long it looks good (at least this is what I understand :) )

 i have done some basic sketch's and so on i think i got a godo design already. Just gotta fit the text into it somehow.... Maybe a banner of some sort. Good old pen tool in photoshop should do that. gonna make a vecotr of a house or maybe jsut some sorta outline.

I'm up for this, expect my entry someday this week.

Here's a very simple Logo, nothing fancy at all. BTW it goes without saying I am no graphic designer! It's on white but I've got it in layers and can change that, or make an image with transparent areas.

ok, im new around here but a friend told me about this contest. im good at design, but before that i would have some questions:
1. the dimmensions...?
2. the background of the essential image? or even that should be part of our imagination?

Hi Hanyah, and welcome aboard :)

Regarding the number of participations it's up to you. You can try as many times as you want to.

When you are talking of the background, you mean the background of the logo? If so that should be any color, or even nothing as this will be adjusted to the new design of the web site.

Dimmensions is not an issue, we just want the logo to be able to be printed in tshirts, advertisments etc. I guess a high resolution logo (eg. 300 dpi) or using vector graphics would be just fine to that.

But, would your client be interested in a small flash logo also? I mean, a jpg would be for sure..but if he would like also a flash one, for the site. and the jpg one for t-shirts and anything else you want. One more time, thanks.

What does flash has to do with this logo ? did you mean an animated logo ?
why don't you just stick to the "standard logo" part and leave the animations and stuff like the for the company... i'm sure if they want one then we'll have another contest or something.... don't complicate things :D

Not bad, quite nice. But you could work more on the animation... And maybe make it repeat or something... because it's quite hard to see that the "house" text fades in :P but, ehh... that's your decision :d or, it wasn't suposed to be posted yet ( anyways as i can see it still has some bugs, it's not playing all the time and won't play on refresh :P ) ? :D hehe

lol yes you would of stumbled towards that one when you put .gif instead of jpg right? yes thats right i set it to repat only twice but it doesn't seem to work that well. I'm thinknig of changing that one. I tried making each square fade in an out in a sequence but when i tried to optimize it it looked pixelated couldn't change it.. real bumber coz it looked awesome.

maybe i didn't do that ;) well... romanians are intelligent people, expecially when it comes to half romanian half hungarian people :P hahha... you know that we have the best hackers in the world ( some of the best i mean ). Anyways, this wasn't anything hard, just used my mind :P and was lucky...

or dumb luck... But i will take your word for it. I dont want you to hack my computer lol. Australia has the best beer drinkers. :)

Another one..but I have a question. If someone see your logo (and now talkin to Yellow Fuzz) and steal ur idea? And making it look better. Why dont you attach it when the deadline approach?  >:(

@d3st1net1cs: ok thks, I also prefer that one. about ur last one, also good, better then the others, just the font is a little strange, I mean it's not clear, you should try with another font.
What I want to say is that in my logos, I use pictures that I took, I mean these are from my photo albums, and not stole.

OK.  I joined this site for help with coding (teaching myself & all it's nice to have someone to ask when I get stuck).  This is my area, well I like to think it's my area anyway  :).  As long as everything goes alright I will be posting some concept ideas for you all to give me some opinions on.  This should be fun, if nothing else.  Glad to join!!

Thanks.  I came up with the name when I was trying to fix a problem with some PHP code.  :)  The more I look at it the more I don't like the MH in the Houses.  The houses aren't positioned just right either.....  Or maybe the shape is a little off.  Anyway - I am still working on getting it right....  Like I said it's just concept. 

BTW - I might be a PHP newbie, but I am not new to design.  It's a little difficult when you don't get any real direction....

I like it also. I'd like to see it "candied" if you know how to do that, you know sort of trasparent-ish like a lozenge or jelly bean. I think that would look cool.

Sorry.  I just use my own gender by habit sometimes....  I should have guessed....  I think it's easier for male designers to design something so clean & straight...

BTW I do not want to get into a gender bias discussion for my above comment.  It is just from personal experience.  We girls like to make things 'pretty'....  I am trying to force myself out of that....  I don't really like pretty...

Yes we man tend to be more to the point than woman, and I'm not just talking about designing here ;D

I think a logo must be simple and clean. Look at the big companies, many just have a word as logo (sony, microsoft, panasonic, casio) and some with a very simple graphic (like JBL or nike) Sometimes I really wonder how much the 'design firms' charged for these...

Agree with u on the first phrase, but not on the second. BIG companies have that type of logos, not small companies. And I didnt here about MYhouse (now really, its a small company)...or, maybe im not updated. BIG companies have that type of logo because they are known...i know every big company you said. But small company need a small description..by a small image. At least this is my way of thinking.

@mind_nl i was meaning where did you get the origanal images form like the car and the background image with the buissness cards.

I got the car by Google search and the cart holder is from a stock photo site

I think a clean professional logo is a must for any size of company. You see the clean and simple logos used more by big companies because they know the importance. Small companies often just whip something up by them self no knowing how important a logo really is.

While searching for a certain service, I have more then once decided not to take my work to a company because of how their website or logo looked: very unprofessional. I know this is not very fair, and they could be the best at the service they offer, but for me a bad design means that the company is not serious enough to get my business...

i would agree with you there. Very nice point. Thats why i kept my logo simple and need. Plus the 3 squares can morph into anything mwahahahaha

Not bad, but you should clean up the letters a bit. I think it will look better if you only show one of the letters where they overlap. (like the vertical line in the y where it crosses the M)

Thats a nice logo and yes you are right, tis fun doing this and you get to see everyones sense of style. Its a good learning curve I guess :)

yeah it is, but still, it is poor quality... because he didn't actually animate it frame by frame just streched or whatever the original pieces with the transform tool... that's why it doesn't look so good...

well, i guess he is from Romania or at least he speaks/understands the romanian language... Or, it was just a lucky find....

Am I suppose to know what ever logo for every company all over the world looks like?

Why would you assume I was from Romania?  What gave you that idea?  Because I did a logo that kind of looked similar to a logo on a website I can't even read? 

And in my opinion it's only similar, not alike enough to be considered a copy....

@PhpNewbie i didn't say it was copy, I thought that maybe that's your firm. Chill, I didn't assume anything. Just thought that it should be changed. Of course you can't know all the logos, so that's ok if we let you know. I would also like that if anyone sees one of my logos, let me know.

d3st1net1cs: keep in mind that the construction business is mainly a mans world, I don't think that color would be very appealing to them. The other logo looks very nice, but the house graphic is very low quality, remember that the logo will be used for printing, so it needs to be very high resolution or better yet, vectors.

shyzbelle: I like your idea, did you make the letters or is it some kind of font?

I think the logo made by designer has the best chance of winning, although it may just look a bit to classy...
Most entries have too much of a cartoon look, probably caused by the contest holders current website. Then again the contest holder may like that and pick one of those designs...
