PPC Advertising vs. SEO

There are two ways to get traffic to any site.  You can either get traffic to your website for free, such as SEO or you can use paid advertising; PPC (pay-per-click).

Often, there is a debate and constant warring between which strategy will be the best strategy to implement in exposing your site to the masses.

In actuality, Internet Marketing is a numbers game, and so the more targeted traffic you can get to your website, the more you will convert, and the more money you?ll make.

So which strategy is the best, free or paid?

Search Engine Optimization:

Free marketing strategies; such as SEO, are just as good as paid marketing, if not better.  For example, when the majority of people go searching for information online, they go to Google or any other search engine and type in a phrase; such as ?How to Cook and Clean?.  The results they get back are divided into two parts, and that is Organic and Paid advertising.  These differences are usually easy to identify.  The organic results are listed on the left hand side and are listed 1-10 through a series of pages, while the paid are listed on the far right hand side.

When doing a search people will often decide which way is best to resolve their dilemma or situation, and most often people tend to use the free results.  Thus, this is enough to indicate that if you want to get highly targeted and free traffic to your website it would be a good idea to get into the Organic results.  However, many things are involved, including getting backlinks to your site, making sure you have the right keyword density, and optimizing your site.  The downside to Search Engine Optimization is that in order to get your website ranked high, it can be very time consuming.  This is a reason why many marketers choose to skip SEO and use Pay-Per-Click with Google Adwords, Bing, or Yahoo Overture.

PAY PER CLICK (PPC):

In short, Pay-Per-Click is when you tell Google; or any other company, how much you want to be charged every time your advertisement is clicked.  The higher the amount that you set to be charged will often determine how high your website will rank in the search engines. On the other hand, if you set a low amount then your PPC may not give you good results.

The ?pros? of PPC marketing is that it takes a small amount of time to get up and running, but the ?con? is that you can not just set up a campaign and expect to make tons of money.  PPC is a science and should be implemented with strategy, therefore doing the homework is crucial because if you don?t choose the right keywords and/or charges you could end up losing tons of money and FAST. So PPC takes skill, learning, and possibly experience to succeed.

In short, SEO is a great way for beginners to get a site ranked high in organic results. SEO may be frustrating but once you succeed with SEO the benefits are great.  This is also true with PPC, but there is much more risk involved since your success is dependent on your money and skill.  Overall, it?s necessary to research both SEO and PPC as much as possible before leaning upon either.

Both are good....if you really think you can target your users using paid campaigns...go for it ...selling a product use ppc...not selling a product...general infrmatve website doesnt need ppc

SEO successfully done equals traffic over and over again without having to repeat SEO over and over again
PPC no matter how well done means you pay for every visit.

Navigating Pay-Per-Click programs, such as Google? AdWords?, can be complicated and expensive. Just make sure you get the highest click through rate possible, while still staying within budget. The advantage of SEO is that it is budgeted and on-going. PPC is better for short-term.

Yes that's right PPC is better for short-term but it's a paid service, I would go for SEO since it's may take time for you but still it can get you a great result and also I think good thing about it is there are method like Social Networking in which you do not have to have much knowledge about SEO still you can get the benefit out of it just for free... :)

See, both have pros and cons. If we consider SEO then it would be some how a long ongoing project ,you have to optimize each and every page and need to optimize it in a proper manner such that it rank  good in search engine position.if we go with PPC you have to be very accurate where you are promoting and how much you gonna spend on the PPC .PPC are one of the best option for short term as well as long term basis, but the budget is the most important factor. Now you have to decide whether you are going for PPC or SEO,as i will suggest go for seo part it would defiantly help you in future.

Natural ranking is better, it takes more time but it is rewarding
PPC is an expensive and quick step to getting seen on page 1 or 2, less rewarding

If you want a good brand get your SEO in gear and get natural results and natural traffic

Sure both are good, but SEO is more budgeted and long-term. PPC is designed for more shorter-term promotions as it can be costly.

I have worked for someone who is doing PPC and for someone who is doing SEO.  Still, I think SEO is the most effective and the most used.  I have also done SEO work and it seems kind of simple.  My employer, Julian Rifa is a hardcore PPC specialist but he cannot find any employers and I dont know why.

Hey....
SEO
1 No worry on click frauds
2 Large number of visitors ->economy of scale
3 Search Engines Algo keep changing affecting SEO.
4 Takes time to get top ranking
PPC
1 Immediate result, fast ranking
2 Long tail keywords are more economical compare to SEO
3 Cost will be relative high if people keep bidding for certain keywords
4 Click fraud always a problem
PPC is more suitable for long tail keywords while SEO is more suitable for more generic keywords

ppc is pay way .. both of them are very good for me. ppc advantage, it is easy to do and easier to attract visitors.

There are several techniques seo a bit difficult, but can bring many visitors and quality  than ppc.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the "natural" or un-paid "organic" or "algorithmic" search results. Other forms of search engine marketing (SEM) target paid listings. In general, the earlier or higher on the page, and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a website web presence.
