My question's
1. Is there any way to cut down on the bandwidth that a proxy website uses? When I ran my proxy website the server peaked at 3mbps and the bandwidth was climbing daily. (I was only paying for 1mbps) The only reason I didnt go over on my bandwidth is because I sold the website.
2. How do you keep the proxy from using all the resources on the server?
3. How do you get google adsense on a proxy website? When I had my proxy website google rejected the website when I applied for adsense.
4. If google bans your website does that mean you loose your whole google adsense account?
5. If you own a proxy can you tell me how many GB per month your proxy website uses?
Thats all I can think of for now if you can anything to add please feel free to do so.

1. yes you can use with phproxy a filesize limit, block nun US/UK/CA traffic
2. I think you can't do that (use less proxies and have 4GB memory) :)
3. open an account for a regular website or a create a blogger account first (don't forget to create some posts)
4. some people got also warnings about problems with one site other people loose their complete account (and earnings) I guess it depends on the violation and the google department
5. difficult to say with CGIproxy it was up to 500GB, it looks less with phproxy
I hope that helps, I guess if you have the hosting thing working you have finished 75% ready...

Again thank you Olaf for that usefull information.
I have been thinking saving my money and building my own server. I priced out a AMD Athlon 4800+ X2 with the following specs for $530
AMD Athlon 4800+ X2
4GB of pc800 ram
Midsize Tower case
500 watt power supply
320gb 3.0 Sata Hard Drive
The only problem is colocation, there are only 2 options for me that I can afford and both of them are $50 a month with 1,000GB bandwidth per month. My wife and I live on a strict budget and @ 0.50gb for overages @ 500gb X 0.50 = $250 + $50 would surley put us in the poor house.

I think this is OK, you need to monitor the whole stuff and start with a few proxies (3-4) and see how many traffic you have. you can do a lot with phproxy to keep it "small"

1TB of bandwidth is good. At least for the beginning.
If you also block hotlinking your specs will be just fine.
Regarding adsense you must put adsense ads only to the front page of your site. To get an account do what Olaf proposes.

You scare me when you say "1TB of bandwidth is good. At least for the beginning" I couldnt afford any thing over that with overages @0.50 per GB.
Also what is the most over head with a proxy website? I was board so I priced out a rock bottem budget server and I was wondering if it could run a proxy as well?
Intel Celeron D 2.8GHZ
1GB of DDR2 533MHZ ram
250GB 3.0 Sata Hard drive
Midtower Case with 350watt Power Supply
Price $230
I could save the extra $300 and put it twards hosting for the next 6 month's. I hope I am not asking stupid questions as I know nothing about proxy websites.
Nikolas
Fri 18 May 2007, 12:53 pm GMT +0200
A celeron processor is not good for any server.....
Regarding the bandwidth you don't have to worry. You can monitor the traffic and in the worst situation you can close the server until the next month :)
In anyway if your proxy uses 1TB per month legitimate (I mean without hot linking) then you will be earning at least $400

Fri 18 May 2007, 01:01 pm GMT +0200
Ok how about this setup? Would this server be enough? Now that I think about it. I would like to go cheap as possable. If I can work my way up to $400 a month income then I could afford a $200+ a month dedicated server with 2TB a month transfer and still make money. And not have to worry about any server parts breaking.
Intel Pentium D 2.66GHZ
1GB of DDR2 533MHZ ram
250GB 3.0 Sata Hard drive
Midtower Case with 350watt Power Supply
Price $270

More questions about proxys. I just seen in another post 10 proxys make $100 per week. So in theroy could you make 40 proxys and make $400 a week? And do you think 1 server could handle 40 proxy websites? And what server specs would be needed?

I can't say how much money you can earn with 40 proxies, I know about people making more than $100 a day with 100 proxies. It depends on the money you have for advertising and also on your server. Just an example: 5 busy proxies is too much for my machine during 2-3 hours on weekdays (timeouts)

Sun 20 May 2007, 01:57 pm GMT +0200
Its not the number of proxies you have running but rather how many visitors you have. One busy proxy can make you more than 10 small ones with hardly any traffic. It's all about promoting your proxies, with all the competition out there you'll have to put a little money into it by buying spots on directories and other proxy related websites. You'll earn back your advertising costs in no time at all.

Also one proxy that is cleverly designed with ads well placed and thought through, can make 10x the amount as a proxy stuffed to the gills with adverts no one clicks, also proxies vary depending on audience these days many proxy owners aim their proxies at myspace and the like. Knowing your audience will help determine the type of advert, if a site is very popular shifting from a PPC to a CPM style adverts may be wise.

no, thats maybe a way that people click the ads a little more (very uncommon)
don't forget to protect your proxy against hotlinking

why you wouldnt colocate in FDC datacenter?
Unmetered traffic for good prices!

A lot, some proxys going down from 5000 to 1000 proxified pages a day (and the earnings from the mainpage are going up :D)

The best - but most resource wasting - is using maxmind's

;D ok, I just bought a VPS so I can throw up a website and get a google adsense account. (wish me luck, they turned me down before). After that I want to make a proxy website and see how much money I can make and then move into a dedicated server. So far I think its cheaper to get a dedicated server than to colocate one. I am waiting to hear back from a colo provider. If they will give me a good deal I am going to just build a server.

Ok here is what I got so far
Server
AMD Athlon 4800+ X2
2GB of ram
x2 160GB SATA 3.0 Raid hard drives
I have colocation lined up 1000GB per month for $50. And I am doing DNS through
www.dnsmadeeasy.com. I get 10 million queries a month, I hope thats enough for a proxy website server. Do you think there may be something else I may need?
Also I am unsure how to put adsese in php can anyone tell me how to do it? All of the parts should be here friday and the server should be online the following week. I am going to give it a 2 day burn in to make sure I have no problems.

Olaf that would be so nice if you did that. I have a google adsense account now I am ready to go. Hopefully I can be like you and make $400+ a month off proxy websites. :P

olaf
Mon 28 May 2007, 09:28 am GMT +0200
don't so much (2-3) the kids are free from school soon, put them all on one IP address and change this after the summer if the traffic is low.
register domains like like domain1.com and domain1.org etc.
this way you can use the same domain for the same theme as addon domain

check this info (you need to change some settings):
DOSHashTableSize
Size of the hash table. The greater this setting, the more memory is required for the look up table, but also the faster the look ups are processed. This option will automatically round up to the nearest prime number.
DOSPageCount
Number of requests for the same page within the 'DOSPageInterval' interval that will get an IP address added to the blocking list.
DOSSiteCount
Same as 'DOSPageCount', but corresponds to the number of requests for a given site, and uses the 'DOSSiteInterval' interval.
DOSPageInterval
Interval for the 'DOSPageCount' threshold in second intervals.
DOSSiteInterval
Interval for the 'DOSSiteCount' threshold in second intervals.
DOSBlockingPeriod
Blocking period in seconds if any of the thresholds are met. The user will recieve a 403 (Forbidden) when blocked, and the timer will be reset each time the site gets hit when the user is still blocked.

:'( well, I was on a proxy webmaster forum and someone caught one of their users viewing child porn. I dont think I could sleep at night thinking about is some one viewing child porn on my proxy website. I am going to have to stay away from proxy websites and find another way to make money off of the internet (other types of websites) Thanks for all of your advice, but I am going to stay far away from these types of websites.

yeah I thought about this item too, and it looks like that 1 of xxxx proxies is used for some illegal content/action.
That feels not good, at the moment only people from some western countries are able to use my proxies with a limit of 2mb files.
This way way I'm happy because I'm sure that most of the (I hope legal) content is viewed by students from the US

Make sure you block 3rd world countries. The adsense payout rate is very low so they aren't worth the extra bandwith.
