This is not so easy to reply.
The first thing you should check in your server is the cache memory it has. The more it is, the best for your server.
Now as you are asking which of those two is best, I would say AMD because of its 64bit architecture. Ofcourse this counts only if you are using linux because windows are not supporting 64bit processors yet (or are they and I haven't heared about?)

I would recommend AMD too as it is cheaper than Intel and better in processing

I recommend AMD as well! Mostly because I'm using it on my PC right now... ;)

I don't know about for a server but I always use AMD for my home PC. It is hard to say for a server though, I don't know what the main differences would be.

I will not agree with that. Intel uses an extended command set just for gaming. Amd is the first commercial company that made a 64 bit architecture CPU which is optimum for data processing. If you use it with a linux server I believe is better than a xeon processor and ofcourse cheaper than that

Sorry for bumping a old thread. But AMD will kick the crap out of Intel all night long. But I do have to agree with gavin_2oo5 Intel is designed for stability. If you want a rock hard stable server go Intel My old Dell Power Edge server was Intel and it was 3 years old and it ran like the day i bought it/
