Social Marketing and Social Networks - Scribd vs Stompernet

Yesterday morning i got an e-mail from Andy Jenkins from Stompernet beginning like "... If you didn't hear about it already, we pulled
SMARTS off the market Friday afternoon..." No problem it was too expensive anyway, but... The reason why the took it off and why we will not get further enlightened about social marketing is interesting: "... It seems one of the Social Media sites we talked
about in our "No Secrets" video stopped allowing
outgoing links...."The site is scribd.com. and they didn't just disalow outgoing links, they took it to the edge and simply disalowed html upload for good. i followed it up to the scribd blog and the comments are going nuts.

Now what's the fuzz about anyway. There are social networking sites where you can not only put stuff up as you like and ad links to you own websites, but they even pay you for it. no joke. Social marketing is relatvely new and the vast amount of possibilities it opens for internet marketers haven't even begun to shine through. Most of us are still scratching the surface while other like Andy Jenkins have given it a deeper thought.

Fazit is that in this situation stompernet took an interesting product from the market and scribd disalows html uploads and initiated a hot discussion about social marketing. i think this guys need to talk. Social networking and social marketing are one and the same and where it isn't like this yet it will be soon. There is no way to change this.

Your point is not clear. Are you suggesting that Stompernet helped scribd by creating this buzz? Are you suggesting Sribd made a mistake in their decision. Your opinions would help us.

If the question was for me...  >:( As i said, they need to talk! I don't like the idea of forbidding html uploads because of integrated hyperlinks and i don't like the reaction of Stompernet either. Social marketing has become a part of our society and it can't be talked away anymore and certainly it can't be stopped by limitations. Internet marketers will just move on to the next social networking site.  And social networking sites spread grow like mushrooms.
