Social bookmarking or Social networks?

Which of these websites ( Social bookmarking or Social network) was better for driving traffic to your website as you experienced?

For me the best are the usual suspects, twitter and facebook :)

I agree you should work on building your social networking accounts(this means off the actual network) and when you start having nice bit of followers they will work magic for your sites traffic.

But always focus on back links because they will help define your site over the long run.

Social networking are great sites for good traffic but social bookmarking sites are best for increasing your rank in SERRP's...

It does not matter which option you are using, what matters is quality and quantity backlinks. For me both Social Bookmarking and?  Social Networking worked. It is a matter of luck, Social Networks helps when you are having huge list of friends, and social Bookmarking is where public vote for your website.

Both of them works for me just fine. Social Networking Sites like Facebook and Twitter requires a number of friends and followers. With Social Bookmarking you can share your links to everyone. ^_^ They both generate good traffic.

Because a large number of visitors in social bookmarking sites are usually those people who are promoting their links... they won be interested in your links... whereas in social networking sites you will be getting genuine traffic!!!

I think social networking sites are more effective in drawing traffic to a site. For me Twitter, facebook and linked have helped more traffic than any other social bookmarking site.

Both ways are pretty good in driving traffic to your website.
But social networking websites gives you more than traffic.
Social networking websites can generate actual leads.

For driving traffic, I would advocate you to use Social Bookmarking websites like Digg, Stumble, Reddit, Traffup, Twitter, Ycombinator etc.

As for social bookmarking, the best thing is that, you can always re-bookmark your site or an article with different titles and description. By doing so, you will figure out the best title that can gain the most attention and visitor to your site, which ultimately convert all the traffic to sales.

I find social networking to be the better choice: Facebook sends me regular traffic whereas social bookmarking is of questionable value.

I do use social bookmarking sites, for example, Delicious, however Delicious is no-follow so it does not give me any PR benefit and I am not even able to gauge traffic. It is a convenient service but it is becoming kind of lame lately. I usually visit the site once a day and check out the Science & Tech section, but it seems like the links are slow to change and the ones that are there aren't very good anyhow. Doesn't Delicious have any quality control anymore? And why are the links so slow to update? I would expect a constant flow of new links to be bookmarked; instead, the same bad links stay there for days. I wonder what is going on at Delicious?
