The Rise and Fall of Webdigity

Ok, sorry for the dramatic name of the thread.
I was thinking about webdigity. It has hundreds, thousands of posts in some of the forums. As if it had a time of boom in the past or something. But now the new posts come in slow motion. I was thinking, why maybe before there might have been a lot of activity and now less? Perhaps people are moving to more specialized forums on their topic matter, as opposed to a place where too many topics are being covered? I don't know. Just some thoughts.

I find it difficult to allocate more time to reading, as I spend the whole day in front of the screen reading already, but I will like to go through a lot of the threads, even if they are old, as I know a lot of valuable information is stored here.

Hope the forum rises again in the near future. Meantime thanks to creators and moderators.

There are two reasons for the trend you mention. The biggest one relates to the creator of Webdigity - Nikolas. Nikolas is from Greece and as a citizen of Greece is required to serve a year in the military; which he did during the past year. He was fortunate to have an assignment that gave him time to keep this forum running but he could not promote it like he would have liked to.

Many of the old regulars here come and go depending upon their workloads. What has been interesting with these rises and falls is the focus of many of the conversations has changed. When I first joined Webdigity most of the conversation related to coding issues. Now there seems to be a more balanced combination of coding conversations along with SEO, marketing and all the other issues related to running websites and online businesses.

I am neither the creator or a moderator but I have been here for several years; I remember how excited we were when the 200th member signed up. This is absolutely the best forum for asking questions, no matter how rudimentary they may seem. Nikolas has appeared to attract primarily kind and knowledgeable folks who are willing to share and help each other without  attacking newbies and creating wars. You will find tons of great stuff here once you have the time to dig around a bit.

I have little doubt in the coming weeks and months you will see some changes now that Nikolas has fulfilled his service requirements to his country.

Sure a year ago we got weeks with much more posts, f.e. during the contests but I can't say that it's quite now.

Bad enough there are a lot of spammy posts here ...

I have a forum on my own site and I'm happy if there are 3 new topics a week :D

Well I really cant say much as I am new here, but I found WebDigity about a year or two ago and it seem extremely active:( not sure where it went but hopefully it comes back

Wow, still doing the compulsory military service there? I did mine here in Spain many years ago for 14 months, but now it's been a while since they abolished it and there's only paid military professionals.

Personally I think of positive things for webdigity. The forum was more active before 1-2 years but this activity was coming from extensive promotion and it wasn't a quality one.

Now for the last year I haven't done anything for this site and I am really glad that the community keeps the site alive. With a few contests and some other promotions I am sure that the activity will explode again, but in any way my purpose is not to make this site a source of income, but a source of finding good people and professionals and in general a useful resource for webmasters.

At the moment I am trying to settle down after the army waste of time (which finished about 3 weeks ago) When I am done I will work again on making the site stronger. BTW if you have any idea on how to bring more quality members to the forum please post here.

this is very special for this community, there are still some (new) good people here :)

Webdigity has become like the office water cooler for me. I've made friends here while my other forum memberships have not led to the attachment I have for some of the folks here. The fact that it is smaller allows for more intelligent conversation and less of the silliness that pervades in the larger forums.

I admit that I come here to ask my 'dumber' questions because I know that folks will help to educate me without calling me dumb. lol There's a helpful spirit around here that you just don't find elsewhere on the web and I was really worried when Nik went off to serve his country. He's built something special here and I should have known it would come through with flying colors.

I'm sure WewbDigity will Rise Again... 8)
