The only thing I can currently see on proxy sites is some ads published and text links. The webmasters running these sites are trying to earn money from them via the ads loading.

Just guessing, but perhaps the idea is to visit blogs through several proxies so you get counted as a "different" visitor in each case when you leave your comments. It seems like advice to spammers!

It is probably a rumour put around by the owners of proxy sites. There seems to be a vogue of people thinking they will make money from running proxies.

This is a proxy sites advertisement not me.
The idea is that you run a proxy site, and you place e.g. Google AdSense ads on it. When people come to use your proxy site, they may click on the ads, which pay you a commission.
