Here we are with another cool contest :)

This time the contest is about the grand new feature of our community, the web design gallery.

This contest is about :

  • The persons who will have the top rated designs (3 prizes)
  • The person who will submit the most web sites (1 prize)

As the second part of the contest can cause abuse/spam, I have to make clear that only well designed sites can be submitted to the web design gallery. If you submit more than 2 sites that are not good looking we will block your submittions....

Now let me tell you about the prizes. This time we will give away some web design related books (real books, not pdfs :) ) from sitepoint. Bellow are the books that we have bought for this contest :

  • The JavaScript Anthology: 101 Essential Tips, Tricks & Hacks
  • Build your own AJAX web applications
  • Build Your Own Web Site The Right Way Using HTML & CSS (2 copies)

All of the books are published by Sitepoint. The total cost of those books (not including S&M) is about 140$

Deadline: The contest will be over at 17 of October.

This contest is kindly sponsored by Final websites, a great resource for php scripts and development. So please feel free to support this site :)

So let me wish good luck to everyone, you can start submitting your web sites here :)

Nice contest! What are the rules for submitting?
Does the submitted site have to be your own?
Does it have to pass w3c validation?
Does it have to be designed with CSS?

Thanks!

Let me answer :

1) The rules are listed in the submittion page (right side)
2) The site does not have to be yours. Just click the "Did you design this site?" button if it is.
3) It doesn't have to pass the validation, but you should mention that in the submit process. Of course sites that are too bad coded wont be listed.
4) I think that you should have designed your site with CSS. I mean CSS is not that new, so every site should use it.

In general we want to list well designed web sites, and make this place usefull for designers who look for ideas for their sites, and of course for clients that looking for good web designers.

Sure CSS has been around for a while, but that doesn't make it a requirement for a good site. A site can have a very nice design without using CSS...

I've made this time a long time ago: http://graphix.bugfix.nl/ and its full of erors according to w3c and doesn't use CSS. I still think its a nice design...

It is nice, but it is very old style. Don't want to dissapoint you, but I wouldn't list this site to the gallery.

We need modern sites in this collection :)

Hope you are not offended by my opinion.

So, what are you looking for, web2.0 style sites?

No we just need well designed sites (I think I can't explain that better)

I think its funny how the 'new' designs are very light in the graphics, while the technology (faster internet connections) would sugest the opposite...

(would my work-online site in my sig be good to submit?)

Yeah that's true, but it is mostly because of the usabillity that light web sites have.

PS: You can submit whatever site you like ;)

BTW, you should post correct data regarding the sites.

I check some sites and they are not valid while you submit them as XHTML strict....
