Think about the backlinks you create to your site.... rather than creating them ALL to your homepage, you create some to your other URLs within your site... this way you get backlinks/PR to more than one link associated with your site...

deep linking is making a hyperlink that points to a specific page or image on a website, instead of that website's main or home page.

Deep linking is linking to specific interior pages or products of a website that the visitors may be interested in...It is a built-in function of the web, enabling the web pages to be interconnected, letting the users go to a specific resource easily by clicking on the links from any web page. You can improve your rankings by improving your deep/ internal linking strategy.

Deep Linking is to link each of your related articles aside from your homepage. This can help your single pages rank much higher for that keyword. By doing this, search engines will know that you have a lot of good content.

Deep linking will help you increase your sales rates and enhance the experience of your website visitors by allowing them easy access to the information that they are seeking.

Deep linking is very popular with marketers who promote individual products of your business and create links directly to the individual product's page of your website.  This cuts out the need for a customer to have to navigate and find the product - and apparently makes for better conversion rates.

Deep linking is getting pages other than the index[home] page ranked. You do that by creating backlinks to those pages. The same as you would for your home page.

Dannsalik hit it on the head, landing pages are perfect examples of deep linking for websites. Blog rolls are similar to this but its not technically deep linking.
