Why 99% of People Give Up?

Vahid

Hi,

I have been working online for so many years. I could refer about 25,000 new members to the first affiliate program I joined. It took about 2 years to do it. I thought everything I knew to all my referrals.

Although all of them loved to make some money, but most of them didn't even bother to give it a try. Some of them started working seriously but gave up after few weeks or maximum a few months. Only three of them kept on working so far.

Yes, three out of 25,000.
It is disappointing, isn't it?

- Why are most people like that?
- Why can't they keep on working?
- Haven't they learnt it or they have learnt but they are not able to be focused?
- What should you do to change them? (or maybe they can not be changed.)

Please let me and others know about your idea. Have you experienced this problem too?
Are you among those who are hard-worker and focused or you also give up easily?

I think an example can answer those questions better :

Q: How many people want to drive a Ferrari?
A: (I guess) everyone

Q: How many of them want to do what is required to get one?
Q:.......

It is easy to convince someone to register to an affiliate program. Just make them feel like they will make a million dollars and they will. The hard part is to make someone believe in his/her self and finally work for his/her self.

I don't want a ferrari now an Aston Martin vanquish or DB9...
Its strange affiliate schemes are of course the webs equivilent of pyramid schemes only very early adopters make any money. Having set up and ran affiliate schemes on behalf of clients in the past I recon about only 10% of affiliates will make any money and less then 10% will attract new affiliates. From a marketing perspective this sort of percentages are a nightmare, we used several techniques to increase the percentages including

Easy to use systems - KISS keep it simple stupid, simple pricing simple commision charges
Provide the means for them to succeed if people  are give the tools and told how to use them they are more likely to actually implement them
Mentoring - assigning new affiliates mentors established affiliates who can answer questions and just provide encouragement
Community and incentives - double whammy create and encourage a community with your affiliates and provide incentives beyond commissions to encourage growth and not just the highest earners

I completely understand.

I'm offering a free service to SMF admins : submit your SMF forum, or your site that links to a SMF forum to my directory, and you get a free listing. I talk more about it here. When I'm on the SMF main site, I see that there are hundreds of people active, yet a very small percentage of them have submitted their link .. and I can't imagine why. My idea isn't even an affiliate program, per se.. I was hoping to generate more enthusiasm for the creation of links from willing administrators that would promote sites via displaying SMFoogle's RSS feed(s).

There's zero dollars involved, and I'm having a difficult time getting people interested. Any money being spent is mine in order to promote the directory's existence on other directories and blog posts.

I guess the moral to the story is that if I'm having a hard time generating traffic to my directory, I can only imagine the difficulties that those who are marketing a good or service that costs money are experiencing,

Nite, I think you are a little offtopic, but anyway your site needs a lot of improvements. The smfoogle web site is a bad implementation of a very good idea.

Maybe you should post a thread in the reviews section to get some feedback.

Now regarding the activity, this is common. You just need bigger numbers, and people to register everyday. Here in webdigity only 5-10% of the new members are actually posting or do anything in the forums.

I am also dealing with online marketing and stuff. I too observed the same fact. Most people i taught, left too early. And this is not just true about internet marketing, it is true about Forex trading as well. I am consistent forex trading from past three years, the same fact can be observed here as well. Lets hope people will think seriously.

From my little experience, most of them left because they thought they could make easy money without hard work. Can't blame because internet marketers and sales letters all sound very promising :)
Secondly, there's no a work discipline. No strategy and no plan to carry out that strategy, and no schedule to consistently work on that schedule either

Thats the problem, people think there is easy money to be made. Its a something for nothing additude in which chances are they will end up with nothing instead of working for it.  Not sure why anyone has there hand out when they havent worked to get it.

Yep, we see it all to often... everyone is after the big $, but there are very few that are willing to work for it. But if you look at this way... if it was easy then everyone would be doing it. I've worked all of my life, persistance pays off. I'm still waiting :-)

Slightly outside the main topic, regarding persistence: The question is, when does one know it's time to give up?
Sure, there's the saying that says that when you are about to finally ive up is precisely when you need to carry on. But what if you are embarked in a venture that is like digging a hole, and time goes on and on and there are no returns, there has to be a moment when the sane thing is to give up...
But how does one know when ?... :o

To be  hardworker, one must have disciplined to oneself, have great motivations to work hard on  project assigned and a sense of maturity. Don't give up, put in mind that you cannot manipulate one's mind and decisions. Just concentrate on three persons you have right now, and keep on recruiting, one step at a time . ;D

My problem is even starting up with this stuff. I get a lot of emails from various places like StomperNet, Trey Smith, all sorts of people where I can't even remember where their links came from. But all their marketing stuff is so "get rich quick" oriented that I just don't really believe most of it, so it stops me even trying.

i have to say that your data-99% is wrong.

I think most people online sales will give up,but the 99% is  impossible.Maybe 60%.

I am ashamed for giving up too. That's because nobody buys my goods.

Hope you can earn much money.  :)

Internet work needs to sit in front of your PC for many hours. Maximum of people can't do this, so they leaves. Also without much knowledge and guidance about the work they get frustration and leaves.

It's easy to swee-talk someone into nodding in agreement with you that so and so is a nice way to earn money and so therefore sign up with you. But then the bait wears off when they notice the hard work they need to punch in to get to that goal. Besides, earning money is not restricted to online gigs. There are other jobs out there, and online earning is not for everyone.

It's not suprising that most people will not cut. Think about all the people who won't take the time and dedication to get good at this and I hate to say that there is a bit of luck involved. I've seen some people work very hard and never make a dime.

after years of start up sites I find it much easier to buy established sites, monetise them and continue the promotion.

I guess its cheating a little.... I?m happy and the site seller is usually very happy

I think the main reason people give up is they expect too much from making money online and after trying it for a few weeks and doesn't see the result they usually give up. It is best to tell your referrals that it will take time to see the results but it will be fruitful in time.

It's unfortunate that only 3 out of 25,000 started working, Vahid. Perhaps some of the users that joined were not real. It's possible that they were robots or spammers. It's good to get lucky with a useful signup that generates $400 or more for you. Good luck.

I'm just starting to know on-line marketing. I'm messing up at times on how will I be able to comprehend topics in forum which talk about advance on-line marketing. But then, I still keep on trying. Not everything we wanted will be immediately given to us. Every thing has to be work for. Isn't it nice knowing that it's all about you working hard just to be successful? It's all about you succeeding because you try? Fail to try and never ever try to fail.

It's a matter of choosing to take that chance or not. It's all about preference.

It's hard to work on online jobs without proper knowledge, that's why people give up easily.

The easy answer to the question why so many give up is they do not want to work - period.  Business work is different than going to a job.  In business you have to create your own work.  At a job the work is already created for you.  There is a business mindset and a job mindset, like a manager at a store.  Anyone that has never been in business has no idea what it is like until they are in it.  Business people, real ones, know what it takes to survive.  This is why 90 percent quit doing it, when it gets difficult, they fall over and die, in business.
