I'm not a skype user, but am thinking of using it for communication with overseas clients. I had a client once who uses it to contact me via my telephone.
I think that it means Skype will be accepting Paypal as a form of payment soon :P
Edit to correct typo.

I don't see why ebay would buy it for so much. It seems like skypes net worth would only be about 1.5 million or so. I find ebays choice to buy Sype very strange.

They done that because everyone in the big business believe that in the future internet will be merged with the traditional telcos through ip telephony.
Skype is a small company (for this ammount of money), but it is leader in this field

Starco has propably right about that.
It is a big opporunity for a company like that to buy the only company of this industry which is not in a big group of companies (like yahoo messanger, aol messanger, etc)
and propably that gives the reason to give so much money for it

I like Skype a lot also. I don't think that eBay will change the service very much, I hope they can make it even better than it is.

The main part of skype though is the audio conversations that you can have to any other skype user in the world (for free).
I think that we can at least expect to see adverts appear in the program, like at the bottom of msn messenger.
I use skype a lot and would switch to another program if they started charging for it.

I like skype due to the logs being kept offshore and anonymous. Thats gone if ebay takes over it.

Does anyone else see this as an ultimately stupid move on eBays behalf?
Am I the only one that thinks that eBay could have easily CREATED a similar company, and saved themselves about a billion dollars?
BTW, OMG THEY PAID UP-FRONT CASH. If someone was like, hey heres $10,000 I would give them just about whatever they wanted. If you showed me a check for $2 billion, I think I might wet myself.

It is not that stupid, because it would be impossible to kick start this service.
Skype has millions of users.
Ebay has millions of dollars that don't really need them. So they are using it to dominate the web

That's true. I suppose that money is not their problem.
Hope some day I will understand that phrase that I've just said :)
