When writing a new program the writing of the actual code will be finished a lot quicker when everything has been planned out before. I usually start drawing the program flow on a piece of paper, but as the project advances it can get quite messy.
Are any of you using some software to make a flowchart to describe the program flow?

yes use some flow chart programs like MS Visio, The best is using UML, there are also programs that convert UML into classes

Visio is what I used at work. Do you know of any good free programs to use?

You can use rational rose for UML.
Personally I use just paper, even for very big projects :)

So have I lately, but it can get quite messy... And if you want to add proper documentation to a project I think a digital work flow is the way to go.
