From Facebook to Twitter to LinkedIn, social media sites can provide a lot of traffic and word of mouth advertising for your site. For me, even though I haven't worked these sites to their fullest potential, I still get traffic from them. Getting your pages bookmarked in some of these sites can bring in a flood of traffic overnight, while most of this traffic will be temporary, you can get a lot of sign-ups to your newsletter and different follow-up lists. While not exactly in the same group, I have had some success with YouTube videos which also bring in targeted traffic. Don't ignore these social media and video sites in your traffic strategies ;D

Most social bookmarking sites,don't give traffic unless you're active and have a certain amount of friends/followers...

Most of the social website use concept of follow/nofollow. So if you are good at communication, then you can create a big network.
Add Friend Into your account: Do add new people in to your account to keep your profile active that others.
Initiate : Some times people feel shy to talk to a new person, do initate the task of talking with people . This will help creating a +ve attitude of your profile.

I'm agree with you.. But some sites gives only traffic not gives you the Do follow back links .. !

Social media marketing is important for the growth of any website. People now prefer to use facebook or twitter to find out the answers of their queries.

I agree with your statement that we cant expect overnight traffic on our websites. But some social media websites bring instant, and genuine, traffic on our websites.

I personally use - Stumble, Twitter, Traffup, Reddit, Digg, Ycombinator for instant traffic.
