what is the point of a cgi-bin? apache asks you, when configuring it, if u want to force users including yourself to put cgi and perl scripts in the cgi-bin. i chose to not do that, and allow cgi scripts anywhere on the server. is this a problem? does this have something to do with security issues? i have noticed like 99.99% of hosts now a days make u use a cgi-bin.

Outside of tyhe cgi-bin folder it may have some security issues, but I am not sure to tell you as I never used perl except the awstats script.

i do not see how the security issues i think you are speaking of, even relate towindows? windows is actually quite secure when it comes to hosting a web server, especially if you choose apache to run it. with the proper firewall and router configuration, i feel quite safe.
