A guy on DP is trading edu blogs from blogs.adison.edu/
for one forum signature with at least 100 posts

The blogs only have a limitation of one default layout that cannot be changed but other than I think they are standard wordpress blogs.

What do you guys think is it worth 1 of my signature links ?

.edu links are used for calculating the pagestrength value on seomoz, I guess there are people thinking that the pagerank is less important in the future of link trading.

this way people are prepared for the new generation of link trades :)

I believe there people in high places (blogs with lots of visibility) that are trying to change the way we think and we can't stop that.
But I am not saying that seomoz is not right to think so, its about time someone devalued the importance of google pagerank.

But we are going further from my original question.  Should I get the blog or not ? what do you think ? Is it worth something ?

If you feel that there is another reason to get a link there besides the edu domain, then go for it ;)

I don't know if I was clear but you get your own .edu blog

Nikolas I was only thinking that .edu alone can help, otherwise blogs are everywhere.

I guess the question is if this link on the .edu blog will exist after the students are gone...

I have contacted the guy on the thread and he gives YOU your own blog to manage and post anything you like (within limits), you don't have to be a student, and he promised me that the blog will be good for at least for 10 years and as long as your signature carries his link.

But the question now is, since that site does not look like any real institution/college/university will its outbound links carry any weight ?

yes initially but it will be devalued the moment people start doing what he is up to.

The more splogs etc coming off the site the less value it will hold, so while it might bode well in the current updates give it two or three and it will have lost its value

if it was me, id look at what will benefit my site today, and not worry about the future.

vbignacio a site is a long term thing, and Google can apply very large penalties if they think you are spamming or gaining inappropriate links, so while it might boost his rankings for a while on a couple of subjects its more likely to see his site drop in the long run does this sound like a good trade off? 3 months of slightly raised ranking for years of low ones?

ventureskills, i agree with you completely.

surely GiorgosK will not use his .edu blog to post hundreds of links to his site. right GiorgosK?

In my opinion you should stay away from this deal. What will happen if this guy decides to stop giving this service?

Instead of that you can search for some guest bloggers and trade blog posts with your blog. That way you can increase your blog's visibility and readership while doing some SEO :)

Thanks guys for all the suggestions,

I was thinking I get one and we all post on it some posts and we all benefit,

I was going to give you access codes as a present but since you don't like the present, I will have to find something else ;)
