How to I put a time limit on downloads from my site - say 12hrs. To stop people who cancel their purchase via Paypal and then go back to site to download. Could I do it via their email address? Or do I need some special software?

There is this apache module called mod_limitipconn. Try this on, it may somehow help you on your concern.

You can use IP/Session tracking
