When I first started designing I would start by creating the layout in Photoshop and then slicing it and coding it. I have seen many people use this method but I have also heard people say that they code their layout first and then create the images later. How do y ou guys create your layouts and which way do you think is more effective?

This technique (first coding, then design) is good for sites that don't have lot of graphics (eg. a forum site), but the best method is to design first.

Is like programming. First you create your algorithm and then you implement it. It can't be done otherwise

i have used this method before, it can lead to many problems with your layout code not matching with the sliced graphics. also if you dont slice the images perfectly the wont fit right, and this annoys any and all webmasters when the smallest thing goes wrong..

I allways finish all the graphics work in photoshop first before writing one line of code. I just find it easier to work like this...

sometimes it can be, but sometimes you might find yourself doing similair designs over and over. i only recommend slicing for sites that you plan to spend a lot of time on like to sell or what not

the best is to design and slice. Then you open in DW for example and when a graphic doesnt fit well you left click and "edit with Photoshop" and rearrange... This works!
