remember that Flickr.com ranks well in "photo sharing"

besides, how boring it would be Google.com was SearchEngine.com

branding matters.
Totally agree. The best choice is the short catchy name

A short catchy name is good but it would be great if it has a target keyword in it...

Having keyword in your domain is an added advantage which can help you rank easily for your targeted keywords. But focus on qaulity ogf the content of your blog which will make you successful in the long run.

Keywords in domain names have very little importance in actual ranking calculations - that???s been the case for years now. The positive effects people see are a consequence of sites linking to the domain using the URL as anchor text - link text containing keywords is what helps the domain rank, not the actual appearance of the keyword in the domain name.

Yeah it helps in terms of SEO, but it is worst in terms of making a brand. So I guess it depends on the project and how long term goals you have.

Yes, it will help you search engine rankings and if the exact keyword is in the domain, then you almost literally have to do nothing if it is a long tail keyword, however, this is not good for a couple of reasons, it probably is not going to be the name of the site that you want, and is a sign of someone not wanting to work hard on SEO.  Of course, going the easy way, but if I look at an SEO firm and the domain name is part of their keyword, and they tell you they are the best, I run for the hills.

An Exact-Match Keyword Domain Name is one of the best things you can do SEO-wise.

There is no need to go with keyword name for your domain name, since Google new update puts the content on no.1 place, and all other SEO waaay back in line, so focusing on something than that seams to me like waste of time, and like someone said before here branding could be better way to go perhaps, depending on a business you are in.

Keywords in domain name used to help rank much beter for that particular keyword but with all that google changes over a past year it doesnt help as much as it was in the past. Google is focusing now more than ever before on unique contents and organic seo. Keyword in domain name is not gong to boost your rank very much but hey every little bit counts right.

Google is changing their Search engine policy. So who does too much SEO for his site will be penalized. So it is good to write unique but effective content for popularity
