A very good program ( but paid ) is Zend encoder Visit through proxy

Hmm do you know of any thats price stays in a 2 digit range? Zend encoder is 1000 dollars.

You can use eaccelerator. It is a compiler based on the mmcache and it is free.

You can try http://phplockit.com Visit through proxy but it is very bad, it can be easily decoded.

Eaccelerator is compiling the script. A very very very (....) experienced programmer may be able to dissasemple your script, but even this way it would be very difficult to steel your code. But as it is an extension for php, your client should have it installed in his site or have the dl() function enabled.

Yea the part I dont like is that the client has to have it.
