One way links are generally better... unless you're exchanging links with a higher PR site.

Agree although blogging and forums play major role.

One-way linking is the process of building a link with few well-known directories like Dmoz, Yahoo.dir, and business.com in order to find niche directories. It is a great and most effective way to build quality backlinks.

Two-way linking(Reciprocal Link) is the process of exchanging links between two relevant websites with an aim of increasing website traffic and link popularity. And it is only good if the sites you're trading links with are top quality and do not have a lot of outbound links.

Three way linking - Some webmasters own multiple sites and try to build up one of their specific sites by offering link exchanges from their other sites. In doing this they add a link to you on their other site and get you to link to the main site they are trying to build up.
You need to do investigation before you start three way linking,

One way linking is; posting or adding your link to a website like article posting, social bookmarking, directory submission etc.
Two linking is when abc.com post link to xyz.com and xyz.com post link to abc.com
Three way linking is when abc.com post link to xyz.com and xyz.com post link to pqr.com which is a sister site or associate site of abc.com.
