The meta refresh tag or meta redirect is a tool for reloading and redirecting web pages. Remember that the meta refresh tag is easy to use and easy to use poorly.

According to my knowledge many large websites use meta refresh tag  to refresh news or status updates, especially when dependencies on JavaScript and redirect headers are unwanted.

well if you also own a website and want to redirect one page to other than I would highly recommend doing it through .htaccess file as opposed to using meta refresh or meta redirect tag. The main reason is that only 301 redirect can pass the link juice and ranking benefit of the page being redirected to the new page.

The meta refresh tag is a device used to redirect a user to a different page. There are practical applications for using a meta refresh tag, but using them is a notorious spam technique.

This is useful for making a page reload after a given number of seconds, or to direct someone to a different page, for example if a page url has changed.

Because it has been used a lot by spammers, for example having a link pointing to one domain, but when you click on the link you are taken somewhere else, usually a spam/scam/hacking/phishing domain, using it can damage the reputation of your web sites.

You are better off redirecting pages using .htaccess, but this does require knowledge of how to code your .htaccess file.

Meta refresh tags are most often used for redirecting readers to other pages, but they can be used to play games and just reload a current page. Find out how other Web designers are using the meta refresh tag, and get ideas for your own sites.
