Here is a very good tool that helps you optimize the speed of your site.

It measures the download speed, and the html objects load time.

Enjoy

Hi Vipandiversity,
I don't think these two things have something to do with the speed of your site.
Instead,I think the following three things have effects on the spead of your site:
1)On-page design;
2)The Performance of your Web Host;
3)The Location of the visitor.

hello friends,, the speed of the site also matter great in search engines ranking, so be sure that your website loading speed is not that high.... the most important thing in making your website design is that you must not have to put much flashy thing in your website... avoid extra flash, ..

Site speed is often an afterthought in the development process. It needs to be front and center. Our new module allows you to stay on top of your site???s speed, so that if it???s too slow, you can do something about it.

I believe what the original poster was talking about is how fast your website loads for people that view.  Load time can easily be found at Alexa and where you sites load time should be above 85 or 90 for a fast load time.  For example, Google is 98 out of 100, but of course their load time would be fast for obvious reasons.

If you want an environment that can be tailored to your specific application(s) for speed, you would need the VPSClass or DedicatedClass. In those 2, we or you can install for you different modules in your environment which are not possible on a shared environment.
