It needs to be fast and since I would like to build it as a platform, it should also be well compatible.

I think first you should master some graphic tool and later on you should learn php

Based on what I know Facebook used HTML as one of their languages.

Facebook is based off PHP but it uses a lot of 3rd party frameworks.
