I got a list here of some methods some may think no longer works in getting traffic for a site. Take a look and feel free to post your reviews.. 1. Online Classifieds. A lot of people doesn???t look into online classified ads. Or maybe they???re not into using it. It may be awful for a large amount of people, but online classified ads can in fact drive traffic to your site. 2. Local Listings. Currently, a number of people are choosing to go local when it comes to advertisement. So this will be a good way of generating traffic to your site. 3. Directory Submissions. If you can make use of directory to get one way backlinks???links from other sites driving visitors to your site but you don???t link back to them. 4. Article Submissions. Choose the site on where to submit your articles. Much better to submit to sites with high page rank like ezinearticles.com, etc.

Sorry to disagree but article marketing is passe...And directory submissions are worth it only if you are submitting to top-notch directories like DMOZ, Yahoo directory etc.
Online classifies and local listings are helpful only if you are targeting a specific local area.
There are much better and more rewarding SEO techniques like blog posting, social networking, forum posting etc.

But there are still people who do article marketing to generate traffic. I guess it's not that out-dated yet.

With Matt Cutts discouraging this form of link building, ???I am not a huge fan of article marketing??, I have become quite dismissive of article marketing. To me, blogging and guest blogging are better alternatives.

IMO, the first three methods were great in old days and search engines don't respect them anymore. Article submission is always one of the most effective methods to drive traffic.
