Hosting companies run by 12-15 year olds? Theres literally 20 or 30 on my MSN , Why?!
They just rip a TemplateMonster template , put some stupid text on it and get a terribly unreliable reseller.
They also have no experience in the subject and can hardly tell the difference between PHP and their toaster.
Do you know anyone like this?

Yes that true.

I suppose this is because :

1) The infrastructure you need to run a hosting company is very easy to accuired (you just need a dedicated server)

2) There are big prospects in the web hosting company

3) There are plenty of free/low cost paid (eg. plesk) software to run such a company.

Even home users that have fast connection to the internet offer hosting plans, BUT a real hosting business is a very different thing from what we talk here. They should have 24/7 online support and physical presence of technicians in the datacenter, plus they should own a datacenter. Having this in mind is very simple to understand that from the 10.000 hosting 'labels' only a small percentage are hosting companies. The rest are just resellers.

I know some "younger" people who have had somewhat successful web hosts, it isn't really a matter of age, but of experience.

I would say that the same thing is true for web developers. There are a lot out there with no experience and they are cheap too. Sometimes you need to go with something that is a little more expensive and go with the support and experience (with both dedicated servers, hosting and development).

Talking of web developers this is a really big problem(for the rest of us who know how to do their job).

I mean that in the case of hosts it is easy to know if a company is good. You can ping, trace see the datacenter (if exists), but in the case of a web developer there is no such meausure except from the portfolio that any company can have.
Here in Greece it is more difficult for us, because the market is full of no experienced developers, and the clients who don't really know what to expect from their job, they simply hire the cheapest for the job.
That s***s

PS: Wineo I'm glad you are back Smiley Are you still in Africa?

Hi,

Well this area is so easy for teens to now get into, they dont even need a CC now! they can just use Pay Pal also sites that offer them the resellers just don't care.
