Hi,

If a site gets so many hits that the server crashes, is it possible to have the site display an error message saying it's crashed? Or is the server so overwhelmed that it can't do even that?

Thanks.

You can configure your server to stop accepting connections after a limit and display such an error. In order to get more feedback you should post what kind of web server you have (Apache, lighttpd, etc.)

Yes. Place nginx before Apache and make custom "Gateway timeout" page
