i think directory backlinks has loosed their Search Engine Optimization importance as they were before as they are not being used as the growth of search engine and the traffic from the directorie

As long as the directory is dofollow then it has some worth.  The only thing with Dir submissions is you have to do hundreds maybe even thousands to have a substantial impact.

Off course high PR directories still have worth, I was just say that you have to have hundreds of them to make any relevancy to the Serps.

I am with those who believe Directory submissions has still got a lot of worth. You can make the best of your submissions by going for dofollow, high PR directories (but you should consider) that are most relevant to your business.

According to me, Yes directory is very important and basic thing behind link building. It helps get back links and if its do follow then you'l get good back links.

Not much effective against competetive keywords unless you are doing massive subbmission to houndrets of directories. Very good if we are talking about niches...

Yahoo directory is not free. By the way Dmoz taking several months to approval.
