I need some help about selling sites..

I got my very first webdesign job and its form a guy that doesnt live by me. I am planning on charging him paypal but I'm not sure as to wheather to charge upfront or what. Anyone got some suggestions?

I actually meant the question to be how to charge him. Should I show him I have completed the site, he send sme the moeny I email him the site zipped or do I upload it for him then he sends me the money?? How do you do that? The job is for a small moving company.

Well the best is getting some money in advance, and the rest after you have uploaded the site.

In any case have in mind that if you upload the site, the customer can easily steal it without paying you....

That's why I allways sign a contract before doing anything...

What type of contacrt do you get them to sign, has anyone broke the contract? What did you do when they broke it? How much (what %) should I ask for upfront?

A contract the mentions the copyright for the code and the graphics (which is mine)

plus the price and the way that the client will pay the ammount.

When a contract breaks you can suit the client , bu you should not as they will pay if there is a contract.

I ask 20 - 30 % upfront

What I usually do is half pay now half pay later. When someone is paying by payal you can tell the client that if you scam him he can report you to paypal and get his money back. Just as an assurance for the client to work with you.

Its an industry standard because A) the person knows that the client is legit and B) if the client paid through paypal he or she can always report the seller of any scams.
