Did you know that MySQL 5.0 has been released, or am I the only person in this (geek) planet that I am aware of?

I saw the specs, and it looks more like Oracle or Sybase.

Have anyone here used it?

I haven't used it, but I am sure that this is not for web sites, but for very big applications.

Propably it would be valuable for a search engine or a ecommerce site like amazon or something.

But anyway it is a very big step for the open source community, and a propably a big problem for Microsoft.

That's true.

Before this if I wanted to have an ERP application in my office I should pay the license, and the database.

As Oracle is really expensive I should compromise with MSSQL (even that it is Microsoft which is a company that I simply HATE)

Now you can use MySQL which costs only 500 euros, and it have all the functionallity that other enterprise dbms's have.

Actually you have to pay only for support, but I suppose a company should pay as there are not so many gurus out there in mysql 5 as it is very new

english is only difficult to everyone else because american english uses a load of ridiculous slang and therefore, it makes it more difficult. probably easier to learn british english

I installed mySql 5.0 in our production server in the office, and I can tell that it is much faster than mysql 4 even for simple stuff that web sites do.

So I plan to install it in the server for our sites. I would suggest you to do so in your servers too.

The only problem that you may have is with multilingual databases, but it can be solved easilly by the default charset directive in the my.cnf file.
