The following is a brief list of items web designers, web developers, and web optimizers should try to avoid when performing SEO on a website:

1)   Splash pages:

Not only splash pages are bad for SEO, it?s also high on the usability NO list. Take this one step further, sometimes these pages are 100% flash, making it impossible for search engines to spider the page, and follow the link.

2)   Flash Menus that can?t be spidered:

Many designers make this mistake by using Flash menus such as those fade-in/out and animated menus. Yep, sometimes they look the business, but they can?t be seen by the search engines; and thus the links in the Flash menu will not be followed.

3)   Image and Flash Content:

Dont embed important content (such as target keywords) in Flash and images

4)   Ajax heavy sites

Dont try to impress too much, specifically by deploying massive Ajax features (particularly for navigation purposes), as this is a big SEO mistake.

5)   Unfriendly URLs:

Most blog or CMS platforms have a friendly URL feature built-in, however, not every blogger is taking advantage of this. Friendly URL?s are good for both your human audience and the search engines. The URL is also an important spot where your keywords should appear.

Can't forget load time, any over abundance of images, widgets, or ads, all effects how fast your website loads. Plus Google has focused more on load time to help just quality.

The another big Seo mistake is improper backlinking to their site with improper URL structure not considering that Google can read you site four different ways.

Skipping use of rel=canonical tag to handle site wise duplicate content issues. Plus not submitting you site to webmaster tool is a biggest mistake of all SEO's should avoid this and must keep a check on their webmasters account.

Good descriptions my forum fellows has given. Well let me add one thing and that is avoid broken links. Check your site and the links regularly to avoid any slump down of page rankings or keyword rankings.

Create a Meta description with 2 target keywords of that webpage. Don use number of keywords on Description. Use Alt tags for images. Using variables in url is not Search engine friendly.

first error made by people is to target the wrong keywords. For avoiding this problem, you need to learn to how target the prefect and most adequate keywords. Because keywords play a vital role in making your website SEO friendly and brining traffic to the website. This mistake results when you try to make more descriptive keywords for your website. Don?t get very general or very deeply into description of website through keywords.

what Huh
"3)   Image and Flash Content:

I thought that placing your main keywords in image title and one of the sub keywords in alt title is a very good way of seo on page. If you are missing this things traffic travis will point that out as an critical error on your page. Sorry but i don't agree with that point. I dont know about flash but images is definitively yes for me.

Don't forget to rel="nofollow" your external links. This can also be used on unimportant SEO pages, such as: contact page, terms and conditions, privacy policy and pure php pages(register, login, etc).

Hi
Decent list definitely - I would emphasise a couple of things:
1. make sure what you are publishing is getting indexed (done by for example making sure your navigation works in a fashion that SE's can follow the links, you have submitted sitemp(s) etc..)
2. Make sure its indexed properly - use fetch as google bot, see what pages are causing crawl errors, 404's , diplicate content etc and wether or not you can find content from the index that should be there
3. make sure what is the index is there with the appropriate references to create relevancy to your keywords (ex using the keyword in titles, headings internal links)

That should get you a decent way. The list doe go on and on but those are the easiest ones to affect.
