How can I make a transparent image in photoshop?

go to File -> Save for web

Then check the gif output and check Transparent

Save your file and you are done.

Also, you can take the transparent image you want, convert the image mode to "Indexed Color", check "Transparent" and save.

Yeah transparent images are great. I sometimes have trouble getting them to be fully transparent for web design though. I think you just need to play around with the file formats, sometimes it is better to use .png instead of .gif.

I tried to use them for a layout once and couldn't get them to work properly. I wanted to have a transparent image so you could see the background behind it.

Little late but i may help. Explorer versions under 7.0 are not playing png transparencies. You neeed to place a javascript on the html to play it correctly. Though in mozilla it looks fine! I ll remember where ive seen it and post it in the right section!
