Hey Nik,

I think it is interesting how your English skills seem to work. You do fairly well when talking about things in a forum, but when it comes to putting something on one of your sites, you seem to get performance anxiety.

I admire you and your English skills. Despite taking a year of German in college and 2 years of Spanish in high school I am illiterate in anything other than English. A friend of mine who is fluent in Spanish laughs at my Spanish and tells me to keep my mouth shut before I get myself into trouble. LOL.

That makes me feel much better YMC, thanks Smiley

My problem is that I am the type of a guy that can convince someone for something in greek (hope that makes sense) but it is very difficult to speak english when I think greek.

But the truth is that forums and chat helped me a lot (actually I learned english this way)

About the sites, I guess the problem is that I can't really use a formal type of speaking, that's why the english in my sites is....
I thank god that I have friends like you who can correct me Smiley

I suppose they would call your English skills conversational as opposed to "textbook".

There are so many who have the advantage of thinking in English and their grammar is not as good as yours.

Ok stop, you make feel very high and that's not good Smiley

You are right about the conversational thing (BTW I search this word in the vocabullary to understand what you mean). I guess this is because I learned by using the language as I have take very few lessons (haven't got the first degree that every 15 years old child has)

Anyway if you want to learn Greek you know who to ask Wink

My problem is that I am the type of a guy that can convince someone for something in greek (hope that makes sense) but it is very difficult to speak english when I think greek.

Don't worry, in time you'll be able to think in English too, you just need constant practice. I managed to achieve this (I'm not a native speaker), but it took me quite a long time.

The best way to learn is through constant exposure. So aside from the good ole `net, here are a few more things you can do:

- To increase broaden vocabulary watch movies in English (drop the subtitles) - this helped me a lot. But try to watch movies with GOOD English. So-called 'from the hood' movies, gang movies and action movies in general won't help much, since the characters usually speak slang and you don't want that...

- Get a couple of books in English: novels, textbooks, whatever, doesn't matter (try your lokal antiquarians' - a.k.a. store that sells old/used books). This will help you get used to the topic of the sentence (which is different than in Greek) and also help you see the correct speling of words. Here's an idea: get a text-marker and, while you read, highlight words that you thought should be spelled differently.

- If you're not sure how to spell a word, just open MS Word and type it in. There's a spellchecker - use it.

- Another thing you could do is to get a grammar book: I didn't learn English by studying grammar (I was required in school to do this, but I found a way around - the above) but you could do so, if you feel it would help you more.

Like it or not, English is the (main) language of the internet and one has to know it if one is to run websites.

Hope this helps.
